The particularity of each method comes in fact from the "device" object. A "device" is an element of a NDT equipment. The Vinland Map, supposed evidence of the Viking discovery of America long before Columbus, was proclaimed a forgery after the detection in the ink of titanium white, a modem pigment (see Pigments, inorganic) (13). Subsequendy, however, after another analytical study, the interpretation of the eadiet results has been questioned, and the matter of authenticity of this unique document stiU remains an open question (14,15). 

Sieves are often referred to by their mesh size, which is the number of wires per hnear unit. The U.S. Standard Sieve Series as described by the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) document E-11-87 Standard Specification for Wire-cloth Sieves for Testing Purposes addresses sieve opening sizes from 20 [Lm (635 mesh) to 125 mm (5.00 in). The ASME code provides the basic requirements for over-pressure protection. Section I, Power Boilers, covers fired and unfired steam boilers. All other vessels including exchanger shells and similar pressure containing equipment fall under Section VIII, Pressure Vessels. API RP 520 and lesser API documents supplement the ASME code. These codes specify allowable accumulation, which is the difference between relieving pressure at which the valve reaches full rated flow and set pressure at which the valve starts to open. Accumulation is expressed as percentage of set pressure in Table 1. The articles by Rearick and Isqacs are used throughout this section. 

The characterization of PIC (products of incomplete combustion) from the combustion of wood treated with pentachlorophenol (penta) is more widely documented in the open literature than creosote alone. However, both products are similar in chemical composition and likely result in comparable forms and concentrations of PIC. Literature reported studies on the combustion of these chemicals and wood treated by them, and the PIC generated are based upon optimal conditions. Optimal conditions are defined as those in which the fuel burns at the designed heat release rate with nominally 160% excess air and a low level (< 100 ppm) of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions in combustion (flue) gases. 

This criterion was based on experience in the past with designing our own GPC columns and has been documented in the open literature (4,5). We found that it was very important in obtaining a column that was very efficient and had high resolution to have the beads as narrow in size distribution as possible. 

Cycloalkenones and/or their derivatives can also behave as dienic partners in the Diels-Alder cycloaddition. It is well documented [41] that cyclic acetals, for example, can interconvert with ring-opened enol ether forms, in a reversible manner the latter compounds can then be trapped by various dienophiles. Ketones 123 and 124 could be directly obtained by cycloaddition of enol forms 121 and 122 of 2-cyclopen-ten-and 2-cyclohexen-l-one, respectively.

In the examples described above, the UltraLink is associated with the extracted concepts. To augment its flexibility and applicability, we allow for a dynamic UltraLink construction from a portion of text selected by the user. When the user selects a section of a document with the mouse, a list of UltraLinks is generated on the fly on release of the mouse button as shown in Figure 31.4A. The developments at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KfK), now the Forschungzentrum Karlsruhe, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, belong to the earliest, if not the first, reported activities on micro reactors [59-62]. In particular, Schubert et al. report on probably the first activities within industry documented in the open literature in 1993 [63].
