Full-Text Index for the Submission. You should provide an index of the full text and the Document Information fields of all items in the submission. The index is generated in PDF by using Acrobat Catalog. Name the index definition file indindex.pdx. You should place all associated index hies in a folder named indindex. Place the indindex.pdx definition hie and the indindex folder in the IND main folder. Associate the XXXX indtoc.pdf Ie with the index hie so that, whenever the TOC hie is opened, the associated index is automatically added to the available index list. This will facilitate the use of the search function in Adobe Acrobat. The function enables a reviewer to enter a specihc word and search the document for that word s location throughout the documents covered by the indices loaded at the time. The indindex folder and hie do not have numerical prehxes because they are intended to be cumulative. Index information should be updated each time an amendment is submitted to the IND. 

The tools available to search the chemical literature are good. We know they are. And so we proceed with reasonable assurance that we will trace some of the references relating to our problem and that we won t miss too much pertinent information. We preface the report of search results with a list of tools used and may state that in so far as these tools cover the literature, the search was exhaustive. In certain cases, we may even consider it desirable to specify the subject approach used for particular tools. In so doing we recognize the shortcomings of available tools in the subject control of published literature. Much that is published is not indexed in available indexing and abstracting periodicals some of the published literature which is indexed may be missed because of differences in subject approaches. 

Cadmium availability index (M H4Cl-exlractable Cd Krishnamurti et al., 1995). 

The kinetic data on desorption of Cd by phosphate, as related to the amount of Cd released during the initial 30-minute reaction period and the overall diffusion coefficients obtained from the desorption kinetics of Cd by mol NH4CI from the soils, reflect well the phytoavailable Cd in the two soils, as shown by the Cd availability index and the grain Cd content of two durum wheat cultivars, Kyle and Arcola, grown on the two soils (Table 5.6). 

The kinetics of Cd release, as influenced by the LMMOLs, play an important role in plant Cd uptake. The kinetic rate constant of Cd release, as obtained from desorption kinetics of Cd by LMMOLs and the amount of Cd released by renewal of LMMOLs from the soil, followed the same trend as the cadmium availability index and Cd grain content of durum wheat grown on the soils (Table 5.7). These reports highlight the significance of Cd desorption kinetics in understanding Cd dynamics and phytoavailability.

The speciation of metal cations governs their availability to plants and their potential to contaminate waterways and the ecosystem (Bernhard et al., 1986). Available forms of metal ions are not necessarily associated with one particular chemical species or specific soil component. Hence, in order to predict the availability of metal cations, we either have to establish the species involved and develop the methods that specifically determine those forms only (solution and particulate-bound speciation), or develop an empirical relationship between the accepted diagnostic measure of the metal and plant uptake i.e. intrinsic availability index.
