1977 Additional Protocols

The existence of an azeotropic composition has some practical significance. By conducting a polymerization with the monomer feed ratio equal to the azeotropic composition, a high conversion batch copolymer can be prepared that has no compositional heterogeneity caused by drift in copolymer composition with conversion. Thus, the complex incremental addition protocols that arc otherwise required to achieve this end, are unnecessary. Composition equations and conditions for azeotropic compositions in ternary and quaternary eopolymerizations have also been defined.211,21... 

The addition of acetic acid (0.5 equiv. to the substrate) to the catalyst system led to increased activity (doubling of yield) by maintaining the selectivity with 1.2 equiv. H2O2 as terminal oxidant. Advantageously, the system is characterized by a certain tolerance towards functional groups such as amides, esters, ethers, and carbonates. An improvement in conversions and selectivities by a slow addition protocol was shown recently [102]. For the first time, a nonheme iron catalyst system is able to oxidize tertiary C-H bonds in a synthetic applicable and selective manner and therefore should allow for synthetic applications [103]. 

The use of GC-MS in polymer/additive analysis is now well established. Various GC-based polymer/additive protocols have been developed, embracing HTGC-MS, GC-HRMS and fast GC-MS with a wide variety of front-end devices (SHS, DHS, TD, DSI, LD, Py, SPE, SPME, PTV, etc.). Ionisation modes employed are mainly El, Cl (for gases) and ICPI (for liquid and solid samples). Useful instrumental developments are noticed for TD-GC-MS. GC-SMB-MS is a fast analytical tool as opposed to fast chromatography only [104]. GC-ToFMS is now about to take off. GC-REMPI-MS represents a 3D analytical technique based on compound-selective parameters of retention time, resonance ionisation wavelength and molecular mass [105]. 

We have broadened the scope of this reverse addition protocol to prepare a variety of boronic acids bearing different functional groups for use in Suzuki coupling reactions. The yield and quality of the boronic acid prepared by this reverse addition protocol is usually better than the sequential approach. The boronic acids can be used without further purification (formation of pinacols) in Suzuki coupling reactions. 

Seebach et al. (154) showed that a 0-isopropylidene-2,3-dihydroxy-l, 1,4,4-tetraphenyl-l,4-diol (TADDOL)-derived aminothiolate serves as a moderately effective ligand for the catalyzed conjugate addition of Grignard reagents to cyclic enones. The catalyst, synthesized from the lithiothiolate and CuCl, exhibits optimal selectivities under a slow addition protocol (2 h), Eq. 124. 

An additional protocol involves the reaction of vinyl boranes with diorganyl ditellurides. 

The key step employed a rhodium(l)-catalysed allenic Pauson-Khand reaction to generate the tricyclic ring system 276 from the allenyne 275. However, all attempts to introduced the missing methyl group by a 1,4-addition protocol failed to provide the completed neodolastane framework. Allenyne 275 was synthesized from the enone 274 by a multistep procedure. The quaternary atom was constructed by sequential enolate alkylations. 

Once the initial 30-day period has expired, the IND may be amended and updated periodically. For example, additional protocols may be added. There is no 30-day delay for any subsequent amendment. Once again, however, sponsors must determine whether to delay testing until FDAis consulted and any issues are fully resolved.

The zinc-enolate cyclizations are not restricted to a-aminoesters as /3-aminoesters have also been successfully involved in such reactions275. A Lewis-acid-promoted cyclization of ethene tricarboxylate derivatived aromatic compounds 1162 provides a route to isochroman-3-ones 1163 via a Friedel-Crafts intramolecular Michael addition protocol. Several FDA-approved predictive IHC assays contain cell line controls as part of the diagnostic kit or are sold separately. These are specifically developed to monitor staining of the antigen of interest, and should be included in all stain runs as an additional protocol control. 

Lithiation of compound 560 with s-BuLi-TMEDA in THF at —78 °C following an inverse addition protocol provided the anion 561. It reacts with primary alkyl iodides and triflates, silyl chlorides, diphenyl disulfide, epoxides, aldehydes, ketones, imines, acyl chlorides, isocyanates and sulfonyl fluorides to yield the expected compounds 562 (Scheme 152). The transmetallation of compound 561 with ZnBr2 allowed the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with aryl and vinyl bromides837. When the reaction was quenched with 1,2-dibromotetrafluoroethane, the corresponding bromide 562 (X = Br) is obtained838. 

The newly adopted Additional Protocol contains rules on complementary access that in principle allow IAEA inspectors to visit any place on the territory of the States Parties to the Protocol in order to resolve a question or inconsistency relating to the information provided to... 

It is worth noting that the aborted Verification Protocol to the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), in its chairman s draft of 2001, also contained an inspection system, called a clarification visit , which is comparable to the complementary access in the Additional Protocol of the lAEA. This clarification visit system was also designed to fill the gap between the declaration-based transparency visit and the challenge-type investigation . 

If the CWC had been able to adopt an ad hoc inspection system, the problem that the CWC is now fadng with regard to its challenge inspection system might not have come abont. Put differently, the problem might well be resolved, at least partially, if the OPCW could adopt, and States Parties could accept, a document comparable to the Additional Protocol of the IAEA. Thus, the idea contained in the Protocol s complementary access system seems worth exploring in the CWC verification context. 

More precisely, the model Additional Protocol is not for non-nuclear-weapon states party to the NPT only it is also opened for nuclear-weapon states as well as non-NPT states. Similar considerations apply to other international organizations and regimes with comparable levels of membership to the OPCW. There are more than 120 members in common with the WTO and more than 130 in common with the ICRC s Additional Protocols I and II to the 1949 Geneva Conventions on the laws of armed conflict in the case of the WCO, the 1988 Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and the 1989 Basel Convention, there are 140 members or more that are also States Parties to the CWC. Again, the majority of States not Party to the CWC have joined the treaties or constituent instruments administered by these other organizations.
