OSHA incorporated portions of the Giobaiiy Harmonized System (GHS) into the revised HCS so that container labeling, SDS format and content, and chemicai hazard determination are standardized and will look the same from workplace to workplace. [Pg.10]

In addition, the client will be more fully committed to working hard in treatment and therapy if he or she understands why it is important to do so. [Pg.228]

While there is a great deal of room for disagreement about values, I have tried to get to the rock bottom of those that matter in adult relationships and have summed them up to my own satisfaction with the ideas of personal responsibility, liberty, and love (Breggin, 1988-1989 1992a). My clients know or quickly learn my values, and of course, they can read my books. I believe that clients have a right to know their therapists basic values because those values will inevitably affect them. [Pg.453]

He also pointed out that he had tried to go through the scientific press and been turned down. But being turned down did not deter him. He believed the public had a right to know about this chance to improve their health, so he had gone directly to them. An essential precondition for safe work is the provision of proper information to workers. The EU directive 98/24/EC requires the employer to provide detailed information on all risks occurring during work with chemical agents. Employees have a right to know all about the risk assessment carried out and the resulting actions and safety measures. This includes information on the identity, hazardous properties, and relevant exposure limits of the chemicals which are used or which may be present at the workplace. The employer must give full access to aU the safety data sheets provided by the supplier. As well as providing the information. [Pg.173]

Adhesives, as with other chemicals, must meet the standards of personal safety estabUshed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The need to protect employees from the hazards of such chemicals led OSHA to issue the first Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) in 1983. The central idea of the HCS is the belief that workers who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals have a right to know about the hazards and how to work safely with the materials. As a result, the standard requires that chemical manufacturers and importers evaluate all chemicals for hazards, and that the information concerning those hazards be communicated downstream from tbe manufacturer to tbe employer and then to the employee. [Pg.313]

One out of every four workers contacts hazardous chemicals on the job. As a construction worker, you have a need and a right to know the chemicals to which you are exposed, their hazards, and how to protect yourself when working. This simple concept is the basis of the Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom). Labeling is the part of HazCom that requires a label on containers so that you are alerted to the fact that a potential hazard exists. Because labels are right on a container, in most cases, you can immediately find out what the chemical s hazards are. The label s message about the hazards is the hazard warning label. Take a look at a hazardous chemical container in your facility, it should have a label. This label should have the following minimum information ... [Pg.425]

In 1983, OSHA announced the Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) which creates a right-to-know policy for workers who manufacture and handle hazardous chemicals. Items covered under the HCS include the development and use of a MSDS for all chemicals in commercial use.
