Hazard warning label

Chemical hazard warning labels are one way of informing you of hazards and how to protect yourself when using or storing that material. 

Hazard warning labels must be placed on every container of hazardous chemicals which is in the workplace. 

Labels and other forms of warning must be legible, in English, and prominently displayed on the container or readily available in the work area throughout each shift. 

Employers may add information in languages other than English as long as it is presented in English as well. 

A hazard warning label is not intended to be the sole or most complete source of hazard information. For complete hazard information, always refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

The regulations require that furniture shall be labelled to indicate its conforming with various parts of the Act. Fire hazard warning labels are required as well as labels which identify the furniture, the person responsible for it in UK law (which may be the manufacturer or importer) as well as information relating to the composition of the furniture. The latter information may be on the label or may be retained by the company but must be available to Trading Standards Officers for a period of 5 years. 

To disseminate information on hazardous properties of chemicals placed on the market with the purpose of promoting safe use. This is accomplished by hazard warning labelling, safety data sheets and other types of information on risks and safe use. International standards are also applicable to this part of the process. 

When all the samples from one individual are ready, they are best packed in a cardboard box for the protection of the containers, and then placed in a polythene bag to ensure that the box does not get wet during transit to the laboratory. Relevant hazard warning labels should always be placed on the bag. At no time during the sampling procedure should there be any eating, drinking, or smoking.

Each sample should be clearly labelled in such a way, that the sample reference can be read without opening the sample and preferably with an appropriate hazard-warning label attached.
