A nodule

Alloys with other useful properties can be obtained by using yttrium as an additive. The metal can be used as a deoxidizer for vanadium and other nonferrous metals. The metal has a low cross section for nuclear capture. 90Y, one of the isotopes of yttrium, exists in equilibrium with its parent 90Sr, a product of nuclear explosions. Yttrium has been considered for use as a nodulizer for producing nodular cast iron, in which the graphite forms compact nodules instead of the usual flakes. Such iron has increased ductility. 

Fig. 1 shows SEM images for the surface of the untreated and the surface treated Nafion 112 membranes with ion dose density from lO to lO ions/cm at ion beam energy of 1 keV. With increasing the ion dose density, surface of the membrane was clearly roughened. Surfece of the membrane seemed to have a nodule-like structure at ion dose densities of lO and lO ...

Figure 5 shows the analytical results for Fe, Mn, As and P along a transect across a nodule from LG1. This nodule is enriched in Fe, As and P at the centre. The As and P enrichment are spatially correlated with the Fe-rich areas of the nodule, indicating co-precipitation of these trace elements with the Fe oxyhydroxide minerals. This compositional variation isassumed to reflect changes in the groundwater chemistry over time, potentially since the lake formed. 

Acute, localized infection This form of infection is generally localized as a nodule and results from inoculation through a break in the skin. The acute form of melioidosis can produce fever and general muscle aches, and may progress rapidly to infect the bloodstream... 

The rare earths play three roles in the production of nodular iron. These roles are as a nodulizing element (or as the growth modifier) as a means of enhancing the nodule count (or nucleation) and, finally as controllers of deleterious elements. The use of the rare earths for each of these purposes will be described in detail in the following sections.

A 67-year-old man took amiodarone 200 mg/day for 20 months, after which it was withdrawn 8 months later his serum TSH was suppressed and the free thyroxine and free triiodothyronine were both raised there were no thyroid antibodies and an ultrasound scan showed a diffuse goiter with a nodule in the right lobe and reduced iodine uptake (45). Histological examination of the nodule showed a papillary cancer.

Chemical characteristics of humic acids isolated from rhizospheric and bulk soil were studied as a function of the plant genotype grown in the soil (Tartaro et al., 1999). Specifically, it was shown that the presence of a strongly acidifying species, such as rape, and a nodulated species, such as held bean, determined greater differences among rhizospheric and non-rhizospheric humic acids, as compared to wheat plants, with respect to total acidity and aromaticity. 

Bannister (1943) described a sodium illite, brammallite, which contains 5.22% Na20 and 2.58% K20. Analysis 3 in Table XI is taken from Meyer (1935) and presumably is a sodium illite. The former sample is from a coal seam and the latter from a nodule in a conglomerate. Although sodium illite is not common, it is likely that sodium-rich layers are present interlayered with potassium-rich layers in some illites. 

Uses of FeCl3/Ac20 methodology in synthesis include the taxusin synthesis of Holton et al. (Sch. 2) [15], the Forsyth and Clardy synthesis of (+)-didemnenones A and B [16], and the synthesis of a nodulation factor (NodRf-III) by Fraser-Reid and coworkers [17]. 

The Rhizobium occurs in specialized nodules on the roots of the legumes. These are developed when the soildwelling Rhizobium invades a root hair, stimulating the plant to form a nodule. Nodule development is inhibited in acidic soils and if the concentrations of nitrate in soil are large. To protect the nitrogenase enzyme, the interior... 

Surgery is generally a second choice for thyrotoxicosis. It may be indicated if obstruction of neck veins or trachea exists or is thought to be likely in the future, if the thyroid contains a nodule of uncertain nature, or in young patients with relapsing thyrotoxicosis, with preference for surgery.
