Wireless monitoring systems

ZigBee May become the ultimate wireless control system for home and office lighting and entertainment systems. The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard, 802.15.4 entertainment systems. 

MMS is a device-to-device transmission method, like SMS, of multimedia files via the GSM network. Files can be transferred between users (i.e., from one subscriber to another) or between devices. The MMS standard uses a Wireless Application Protocol as its transmission protocol. MMS can be used in monitoring systems such as road traffic monitoring or water level monitoring. All these applications would involve the transmission of image files. No common MMS standards, including a standard volume of transmitted MMS files, have yet been adopted by GSM network operators.

Ideally, the monitoring device not only provides accurate monitoring and timely identification of possible complications, it should also ensure the comfort of the mother while doing so. Thus, it is important to develop wireless, comfortable monitoring systems to be used during extended periods of time without interrapting the daily activities of the future mother. 

Corrosion monitoring systems (Chapter 5) are gaining acceptance and use around the world with the continued reduction cost of electronics and the increase in computing power it is easier to collect and analyse data. There is considerable research on wireless systems in the United States. 

The presence of malware on hospital computers, smartphones, and tablets, targeting mobile devices using wireless technology to access patient data, monitoring systems, and implanted patient devices...

Ryohei Nakamura, PhD, is a research associate in the University of Kitakyushu, Kitakyushu, Japan. His research interests include communication network systems, wireless communications, radio propagation, and measurement engineering. He contributed in the publications of numerous papers on ultra-wideband radio propagations, wireless sensors, microwave sensors, and patient care monitoring systems.

In this chapter, biomedical sensors for wearable computing including their measur-and and measured parameters are discussed, and then the available techniques for the textile-based body sensor networks design are considered. In order to demonstrate the potential benefits of the textile-based wearable wireless body sensor networks, recent development in wireless vital signals monitoring systems based on loT for health care and fitness applications are reviewed.
