In the 1930s when high-pressure natural gas (95% methane) pipelines were being built in the United States, it was found that the lines often became plugged in cold weather by a white, waxy solid that contained both water and methane (CFIJ molecules. Twenty years later. Walter Claussen at the University of Illinois deduced Ihe structure of that solid, a hydrate of methane. Notice (Figure B) that CH4 molecules are trapped within a three-dimensional cage of H20 molecules. [Pg.66]

Yellowish-white solid with a mild, sweetish odor. Odor threshold concentration is 287 ppm (quoted, Keith and Walters, 1992). [Pg.275]

White, crystalline solid when pure light tan color with faint chemical odor for technical grades. Odor threshold concentrations in air ranged from 18 to 41 ppb (quoted, Keith and Walters, 1992). Robeck et al. (1965) reported an odor threshold concentration of 9 ppb. [Pg.539]

White to gray, or pale yellowish-orange crystals or powder. Nonflammable but may be combustible if dissolved in a flammable organic solvent or petroleum distillate for application. Pungent to mild, fruity odor. Odor threshold concentration in water is 4.7 mg/kg (quoted, Keith and Walters,... [Pg.713]

Walter et al (Ref 3) further reports the existence of TeMeAN Perchlorate (see below), which may be useful in pyrots. One method of prepn is by reacting TeMeAN with perchloric acid. The perchlorate is si sol in w. It is considered to be not as sensitive as methylamine nitrate perchlorate. When ignited, the TeMeAN Perchlorate bums with a small bluish-white, sparkling flame... [Pg.571]

Cell Lines. The human fetal intestinal cell line (FHS) was kindly supplied to us by Dr. Walter A. Nelson-Rees at the Naval Bioscience Laboratory, Oakland, California. The human colonic cell line, SKCO-1 developed by Drs. G. Trempe and L.F. Olds, was obtained from Dr. Jorgen Fogh, Sloan Kettering Institute, Rye, New York. The HT-29 cell line was developed and obtained from Dr. J. Fogh. SW-480 and SW-620 were developed at Scott and White Clinic in Temple, Texas and were obtained from Col. A. Liebovitz. [Pg.178]

Over 70% of a lethal dose of eugenol was recovered from the urine of rabbits after death. The administration of single 200 mg doses to rats was also reported to increase urinary output of ethereal glucuronides of 33-35 mg/rat in 12 hours compared to the control value of 4 mg/rat. Ester glucuronide values were unchanged. Subcutaneous injection of 0.1 mL of purified eugenol in adult Walter Reed white rats caused necrosis and inflammation at the injection site [29-33]. [Pg.173]
