Nitration methylamine

Mixtures of Methylamine Nitrate with Compounds which have Explosive Properties. A mixt with 70—80% AN is called Nitramite No 2 in Fr (Ref 2). When detond with 2g of MF in 30mm tubes it has a deton vel of 2550m/sec at a d of l.OOg/cc and3250m/sec at 1.25g/cc (Ref 2). Mixts of Methylamine Nitrate with AN, Ca nitrate, or Na nitrate form low melting eutectics which are castable expls (Ref 1). A soln of 200g of Methylamine Nitrate in 800 lbs of methyl ale is a useful fuel for turbojets (Ref... [Pg.114]

Ammonium nitrate slurries can be either prepared in the factory and loaded into cartridges or mixed on site and pumped down the shot-holes. Ammonium nitrate slurries consist of a saturated aqueous solution of ammonium (about 65%) and other nitrates (i.e. methylamine nitrate MAN ). This solution also contains additional amounts of undissolved nitrates together with a fuel. The fuel is generally aluminium powder but water-soluble fuels such as glycol may also be employed. The slurries can be made more sensitive by adding either TNT, PETN,... [Pg.141]

Naoiim [51] proposed the use of methylamine nitrate as an ingredient of fusible explosives. During World War II it was employed in Germany, under the name Man-Salz as one of components of a fusible explosive blend used for filling missiles, along with sodium nitrate and cyclonite. [Pg.465]

Methylamine nitrate was obtained by treating methylamine with concentrated nitric acid (66%). The explosive strength of methylamine nitrate exceeds that of TNT. Its hygroscopidty, which is even higher than that of ammonium nitrate, is a disadvantage. [Pg.465]

On experimental grounds Le Roux [52] reports that the tendency of methylamine nitrate to detonation is not high. At a density of 0.9 g/cm3 it is completely decomposed by a 2-g detonating cap along a short space only. A much stronger detonator, con-... [Pg.465]

The heat of explosion of methylamine nitrate is 1200 kcal/kg, the volume of gases produced being V0 = 834 l./kg. When initiated by 40 g pentaerythritol tetra-nitrate (PETN) it detonates in steel pipes of 30/33 mm diameter, with the following... [Pg.466]

Methylamine nitrate is a stable compound. Marked thermal decomposition starts at 195°C, and on raising the temperature to 235°C, oxides of nitrogen are developed. A sample of the substance thrown into a test-tube heated to 375-390°C explodes in 7 sec. [Pg.466]

Walter et al (Ref 3) further reports the existence of TeMeAN Perchlorate (see below), which may be useful in pyrots. One method of prepn is by reacting TeMeAN with perchloric acid. The perchlorate is si sol in w. It is considered to be not as sensitive as methylamine nitrate perchlorate. When ignited, the TeMeAN Perchlorate bums with a small bluish-white, sparkling flame... [Pg.571]

Methylamine nitrate is considerably more hygroscopic than ammonium nitrate. Its sensitivity to impact is very low. It can be employed as a flux component in castable ammonium nitrate mixtures, but requires incorporation of brisant components. Methylamine nitrate is also employed as a component in - Slurries. [Pg.272]
