Use silicon sealant to seal the leaks (Dow or 3M weatherstrip adhesive). Recheck the filter for leaks after the repair and document.

Since ionomers contain ionic clusters, they adhere well to most polar surfaces. They are used for coatings of golf ball covers. Their thermoplasticity permits pressing in conventional molding machines. The addition of foaming agents produces flexible foams used in shoe soles and weatherstripping. The use of EPDM rubbers for the manufacture of automobile and truck tires has not been successful, mainly because of poor tire cord adhesion and poor compatibility with most other rubbers. However, EPDM rubbers have become widely accepted as a moderately heat-resisting material with good weathering, oxygen, and ozone resistance. They find extensive use in nontire automobile applications, including body and chassis parts, car bumpers, radiator and heater hoses, weatherstrips, seals, and mats. Other applications include wire and cable insulation, appliance parts, hoses, gaskets and seals, and coated fabrics. 

The transportation market has used polyurethane adhesives for such diverse applications as bonding FRP and sheet molding composite (SMC) panels in truck and car applications, polycarbonate headlamp assemblies, door panels, and weatherstrip flocking.

The applications are automotive window seals and fiiel filler gaskets, industrial door and window seals and weatherstripping, wire/cable covering, and hand-held power tool housing/handles. Nonslip soft-touch hand-held tool handles provide weather and chemical resistance and vibration absorption.i Translucent grade is extruded into films for face masks and tube/hosing and injection-molded into flexible keypads for computers and telephones. Certain grades are paintable without a primer. Typical durometer hardnesses are Shore A 60, 76, and 80.
