Vendors Offerings

All equipment vendors strive to provide equipment to meet specifications. However, all vendors employ human beings who make mistakes just as do purchasers and operators of evaporator systems. Few vendors can offer every type of evaporator consequently his proposal may reflect the types he does provide or the types he has the most confidence with. In many cases, the proposed equipment may have been selected with an eye on initial investment only specifications should specifically spell out any penalties to be assessed for energy usuage and the manner in which they will be applied in any evaluation. 

In many cases several evaporator types may be adequate for the intended service. The task then becomes to weigh all factors specified to arrive at the proper selection. Following is a procedure to assist in such evaluation. 

Information required to make the evaluation above should be provided with the vendors proposals, and specifications should make plain that such information is required. However, this information is to be treated discriminately. Ethics should preclude revealing one vendor s design to a competitor. Consequently, engineering by the purchaser prior to receiving any proposals will enable a more effective evaluation to be made.

Producers. The producers of databases are sometimes called database publishers because they make pubHc their databases. Some producers pubhsh hardcopy counterparts to databases and so are pubHshers in the traditional sense others pubHsh data only in electronic form. Database producers are responsible both for the deterrnination of content and for database production. Most producers offer their databases for lease or Hcense to private organisations or database vendors. Vendors offer database search services to the marketplace on a fee basis. An increasing number of producer/vendors such as Mead Data Central, U.S. National Library of Medicine, and DRI/McGraw-HiU. (formerly Data Resources), offer search services (batch or online) from their own databases as well as from the databases of other products. 

A number of vendors offer software based hazard assessment tools that help determine the magnitude of the hazards involved. With this software, calculations can be made to reflect the hazard for various failures. Some risk ranking software combines hazard assessment with probabilities of occurrence so that the relative risk levels can be assessed. 

Customers are right to carefully consider the hnancial stability of the software vendor offering the ELN system. Besides technical soundness, it is important to consider whether the software vendor will be in business in 10 years time to support and enhance the ELN system. Is the vendor hnancially stable and likely to survive cyclical economic downturns and recessions ... 

Several vendors offer NO redncing catalyst additives. All have seen commercial success in reducing NO. However, the resnlts have not been consistent. The additives do not function like SO redncing additives that absorb the desired pollutant and transfer it to the reactor. Several vendors offer proprietary horizontal technologies. It was reported in lanuary 2002 that environmental horizontal wells have been installed in more than 35 states in the United States More than 250 environmental horizontal weUs have been installed in Colorado. Understanding the development of SPICE is useful in making a worthwhile comparison of vendor-offered simulation software.
