An equation was developed by the author from the pump efficiency curves in the eighth edition of The GPS A Engineering Data Book. provided by the M. W. Kellogg Co. The curves were found to check vendor data well. The equation admittedly appears bulky, but is easy to use.

The program must require the vendors to measure a number of reference samples and/or duplicates submitted in a planned sequence. It should require prompt measurement and reporting of these data and should maintain the results in a control chart format. Prompt feedback and follow-up of any apparent data discrepancies and reconciliation of the results with control charts maintained by the vendors are required to minimize the length of uncertain performance. The quality assurance plan should include random sampling of the vendors data for their validity and conformance with quality assurance requirements. If quality assurance is properly practiced at all levels, an inspection of 5 percent of the total data output should be adequate.

A complete list of vendor data shall be included with the first issue of the major drawings. This list shall contain titles, drawing numbers, and a schedule for transmission of all the data the vendor will furnish (see Appendix O). 

Most manufacturers use software to size and select their valves, but very litde software is available which will calculate the valves independent of specific vendors data and where data can objectively be used. In most, you unfortunately have to select a manufacturer s model number, and the selection gives specific valve model numbers with their specific configurations, Kd factors, etc. There are only a few software packages which are more independent.

Vendors—these sources can provide a great deal of information on existing well-known processes but may be of limited help on proprietary or new processes. Also, one must be careful of vendor data, since there is often no way of knowing how valid the information is and obviously, the vendor is usually trying to make a sale. 

Select the trap size based on the load and steam pressure. Obtain a chart or tabulation of trap capacities published by the manufacturer whose trap will be used. Figure 6.8 is a capacity chart for one type of bucket trap manufactured by Armstrong Machine Works. Table 6.15 shows typical capacities of impulse traps manufactured by the Yarway Company. Be sure to use up-to-date vendor data. 

Related Calculations. Use this method for pressure-reducing valves in any type of water piping— process, domestic, commercial—where the water temperature is 100°F (37.8°C) or less. Table 6.19 is from data prepared by the Clark-Reliance Corporation Figure 6.9 is from Foster Engineering Company data. Be sure to use up-to-date vendor data. 

Determine the individual HTUs for the liquid and gas resistances at the bottom and top of the tower. Vendor data for carbon dioxide desorption from water for 2-in FR packing, when corrected to the temperature and system physical properties for this example, give// = 0.83 ft and Hu = 0.80 ft.
