Utility supply lines

Construction of a 0.1-GJ prototype is now being planned at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. This unit will be connected directly to the utility supply line via a 1.0-MW convertor and will be used to test energy storage, damping of transients, and control circuit response. In addition, the coll will have provisions for operation in superfluid helium and for testing very large conductor samples. External force support will not be used, however. [Pg.9]

Stevens-Johnson syndrome fever, cough, muscular aches and pains, headache, and lesions of the skin, mucous membranes, and eyes. The lesions appear as red wheals or blisters, often starting on die face, in the mo util, or on the lips, neck, and extremities, stomatitis inflammation of die mo util striae lines or bands elevated above or depressed below surrounding tissue, or differing in color or texture subjective data information supplied by the patient or family sublingual under die tongue... [Pg.655]

The catalyst preparation area is positioned between the two polyethylene production units with 60 feet separating each one. The aluminum alkyls storage canopy and isopentane horizontal storage tank are located at a remote area at an approximate distance of 250 feet away from the production and utility areas. The isopentane is transported to the catalyst preparation area through a 3-inch pipeline. A remote actuated isolation valve on this supply line that fails closed is located at the isopentane storage tank. This control valve and an associated isopentane feed pump are managed by the operator in the control room. [Pg.369]

V batteries in the PQ2000 unit. The full-scale PQ2000 switches from standby to full operation in about one-quarter of a 60-Hz cycle (4.2 ms) and can supply 2MW/2MVA for 10 s. When the utility supply normalizes, load excitation is transferred back to the utility supply. If the disturbance is due to a recloser operation of the utility distribution-line, for example, the entire PQ2000 cycle will be completed in about 3 s. (Utilities use reclosers to open momentarily a feeder-line in the event of a fault on the line. Typically, the recloser is programmed to cycle about three times before it latches open and requires operator intervention.)... [Pg.317]

POWER FACTOR CORRECTION - Installing capacitors on the utility service s supply line to improve the power factor of the building. [Pg.117]

VFD s with high frequency switching characteristics should include input filtering equipment when installed on systems supplied by diesel generators and weak utility supply systems. This input filtering can consist of line reactors (reactance can also be built into drive step-down input transformers if apphcable), LCL-style input filters, and external third-party wideband harmonic filtering equipment. [Pg.188]

Backup supplies are always useful when a utility is lost Spare equipment or multiple-train equipment may be used in order to keep the utility on line even if one part of the system shuts down. An alternative or supplement is to provide backup from a different utility system. The number of different air systems found in a plant provides an opportunity to do this. Moreover, nitrogen can be used to back up some of the air systems. All these tie-ins require careful review during hazard analyses. Usually, the backup supply is activated when the primary supply loses a certain amount of line pressure. If this is done by means of a single pressure regulator and the pressure is also low on the backup system, the flow may be opposite to that intended. It is essential to keep nitrogen out of an air supply to a confined, inhabited space (e.g., the instrument air supply to a control room), and it is essential to keep air out of nitrogen when it is used as an inert gas. [Pg.1201]

As the name implies, a motor-generator set consists of a motor powered by the AC utility supply that is mechanically tied to a generator, which feeds the load (see Fig. 10.182). Transients on the utility line will have no effect on the load when this arrangement is used. Adding a flywheel to the motor-to-generator shaft will protect against brief power dips. Figure 10.183 shows the construction of a typical m-g set. The... [Pg.1161]

Thiols are shipped ia every conceivable container size. Dmms and cans can be of carbon steel for most thiols, provided color is not a determining factor. Tmck, rail, and isocontainer shipments should be set up to utilize a vapor return line from the tank to the shipping container. This substantially minimizes the amount of odor that escapes. Phillips Petroleum Company and Atochem North America can supply further information regarding the handling and properties of many thiols. [Pg.15]

A supply jet may have several different forms point jet, swirl jet, line jet, radial jet, etc. The choice depends on available volume and existing demands. A radial jet could be used when it is possible to utilize a wall or a ceiling for distributing the air a point jet could be used when it is advantageous to have a high air velocity in the volume (room). [Pg.916]

About 2.5 million tons (2.3 million tonnes) of coal arc burned daily in U.S. power plants. This is equivalent to roughly 21,000 railcars in transit, so it is apparent that coorditiatiiig production and cotistimp-tioii is no easy task. Accidents, rail strikes, natural disasters (e.g., floods that take out bridges and rail lines) and severe weather (e.g., deep river freezes that halt barge traffic) can all severely disrupt deliveries for utility customers dependent on a reliable coal supply for base load plants. Nonetheless, to reduce costs U.S. utilities have significantly reduced typical inventory levels over time. Wliereas a coal inventory of ninety days of supply was once typical, inventories now frequently run in the range of thirty to forty-five days. [Pg.264]

Perform mobilization planning (general mobilization, continuity of operations, and industrial preparedness) to include utilization of pilot line fabrication and shop capabilities to provide assigned materiel in short supply until such time as industry can assure quantity production... [Pg.743]

CE instrumentation is quite simple (see Chapter 3). A core instrument utilizes a high-voltage power supply (capable of voltages in excess of 30,000 V), capillaries (approximately 25—lOOpm I.D.), buffers to complete the circuit (e.g., citrate, phosphate, or acetate), and a detector (e.g., UV-visible). CE provides simplicity of method development, reliability, speed, and versatility. It is a valuable technique because it can separate compounds that have traditionally been difficult to handle by HPLC. Furthermore, it can be automated for quantitative analysis. CE can play an important role in process analytical technology (PAT). For example, an on-line CE system can completely automate the sampling, sample preparation, and analysis of proteins or other species that can be separated by CE. [Pg.3]

In addition, other utilities are installing established solar cells in a growing number of tests that may lead to a mass market. The studies may indicate the extent to which solar cells can be used to avoid installation costs for new distribution lines between conventional power plants and remote customers buildings. Also, among other objectives, PV cells may provide an economical means of helping to supply demand during peak summer periods in northern climates. [Pg.105]
