Underlayment applications

Among the various applications which have not been treated in greater detail are the spray coat applications and the underlayment applications. The spray coat applications are based on combinations of cement and other fillers, together with a latex binder. These applications may be applied by banish, roller and trowel, as well as by spray. They are often promoted as a substitute for "rubbing" concrete. [Pg.93]

Applications include multilayer barrier films with PA6 (polyamide 6)/ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH)/ PA6 for the highest barrier applications especially for medical products, co-extruded cast films based on PP or PE with fillers such as calcium carbonate monoaxially stretched to achieve breathability to provide a water barrier but enabling water vapour to permeate the film, used in domestic wrapping, roof underlay applications, hygiene products, for example, nappies and feminine care. [Pg.120]

Eighty percent of the markets for particle board are furniture, doors, cabinets, and countertops floor underlayment is the next significant application with 13%. The total market in 1989 was approximately 930 million. [Pg.319]

Soft, very flexible vinyl foams used for garment insulation, upholstery and similar applications are made by this CBA process. The more rigid foams used as underlays for rugs and flooring can also be made by this method, but require different plastics and lower plasticizer contents. Open-cell chemically blown vinyl foams generally have densities in the range of 5 to 30 lb/ft3. [Pg.346]

The open-cell vinyl foams produced by mechanical frothing, is used to produce sheets, such as flooring underlay, wall coverings, and other applications requiring relatively close thickness tolerances. Plastisol is mixed with a given amount of air in a high-shear, temperature-... [Pg.346]

The two metallizations most commonly used to fabricate transducers on AW devices are gold-on-chromium and aluminum. Au is often chosen for chemical detection applications because of its inertness and resistance to corrosion a layer 100-200 nm diick is necessary to provide adequate electrical conductivity. Unfortunately, the inertness of Au also prevents its adhesion to quartz and other oxides utilized for AW device substrates. Therefore, an underlayer of Cr (2-10 nm thick) is utilized to promote the adhesion of Au to the substrate the electropositive (reactive) nature of Cr allows it to form strcxig bonds with oxide surfaces, while alloying between the Cr and Au chemically binds the two metal layers... [Pg.342]

The second widely used method for preparing polyurethane foam laminates is the liquid adhesive, or wet process. Here special adhesives, either in the form of water solutions, or as solutions in organic solvents, are applied to either the fabric or the foam. The equipment is conventional. The water or solvent is evaporated, and the bond may be set by drying or curing at elevated temperature (20). One of the adhesives used for this application is based on acrylic interpolymer latices. This adhesive is used in the manufacture of thermal garments and insulated bags. Carpet underlay can also be made by adhesive laminating (7). [Pg.325]

Ni(P) is used as an underlayer in high-density metallic memory disk fabrication to improve the mechanical finish of the surface. Thus, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance have been major properties determining the technological applications of electroless Ni(P) in the electronic, aerospace (stators for jet engines), automotive, machinery, oil and gas production, power generation, printing, and textile industries. [Pg.134]

A polyester insulated wire which by itself would not qualify for application in hermetic motors can be made to qualify for such applications by a thin overcoat of polyamide imide film. In general, the polyamide imide protects the underlaying polyester from exposure to deleterious outside influences and elevated temperatures. [Pg.523]
