The effect of size of the a-substituent was investigated by Tarrant et al. (1964) in the reaction of propynyl-lithium with substituted trifluoro-ethylenes. With X = Cl or Br, the tramjcis ratio of the product was 4 1 and 3 1, while with larger X groups, such as CF3 or CH=CH2, only tram isomers were formed. [Pg.62]

Most of the pressure crystallisation research has been done on polyethylene. Pressures of 3 kbar or higher are required to obtain crystallite thicknesses of 10-7 m. Some other polymers have a much stronger tendency towards extended chain formation. Poly(chloro trifluoro) ethylene shows this effect at about 1 kbar poly(tetrafluoro)ethene already at about 0.3 kbar. [Pg.727]

The reactions of perfluoroisobutene with sodium salts of malonic esters are difficult to control, owing to rearrangement and base catalysed cyclization, but when the complex BFs NEts is used as HF acceptor, condensation is readily controlled (see Scheme 15 and p. 99) and yields of up to 50% of allene (39) obtained. Antimony pentaliuoride catalyses the electrophilic addition of acid fluorides to 1,1-difluoro- and trifluoro-ethylene. Propiophenones, PhCO CHX-CFs (X = H or F), are obtained from benzoyl fluoride, but with acetyl fluoride, further condensation occurs, and trifluoroethylene yields the jS-diketone, CF3-CHF-CO-CH2Ac. ... [Pg.68]

Perfluorovinyldimethylarsine is slowly hydrolyzed by base to trifluoro-ethylene (70) although reports on the stability of tris(perfluorovinyl)arsine seem to be in conflict (108, 258). [Pg.178]

Antimony pentafluoride alone causes fiuorination of tetrafluoro-, chloro-trifluoro-, and trifluoro-ethylene, but forms the adduct (CF3-CH2)3SbFj with vinylidene fluoride, either alone at 50 °C or in SOa solution at 20 "C. It catalyses the addition of arsenic trifluoride,... [Pg.53]

In semicrystalline dipole electrets, polar crystallites are present in addition to the polar amorphous phase (Fig. 2b). In die technically most interesting semicrystalline dipole electrets such as polyvinyhdene fluoride (PVDF) and its copolymers with trifluoro ethylene (P(VDF-TrFE)) (Lovinger 1983) or hexafluoropropylene (P(VDF-HFP)), odd Nylons 7 and 11, polyureas, polyureflianes (PU), and some liquid crystalline polymers, the crystallites are ferroelectric (Vasudevan et al. 1979 Hattori et al. 1996). The terpolymer poly(vinyhdene-fluoride-trifluoroethylene— chlorotrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE-CTFE)) has been shown to have relaxor ferroelectric properties as the CTFE group destabilizes die long-range order of the ferroelectric phase (Xu et al. 2001). [Pg.557]

Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (FTIR) has been applied to the characterisation of pyrrole - ethylamine [29], poly(beta-hydroxybuturate) - beta (hydroxyl valerate) [30], polyethylene terephthalate - bibenzoate [31], polyether oxide - poly(beta-benzyl L-aspartate [32], poly(vinylidene fluoride) - trifluoro-ethylene [33], polyacrylamide methyl acrylate [34], ethylene propylene - diene [35], and styrene methacrylate [16, 25]. [Pg.369]

When PVDF is copolymerized, the crystallinity of the copolymer decreases, and the uptake of electrolytes increases. However, the melting point and the mechanical strength decrease. To make up for these deficiencies, a trifluoro-ethylene (TrFE) unit can be introduced to increase the melting point of the copolymer and the ratio of the amorphous domain. The prepared gel polymer electrolyte provides good electrochemical performance. [Pg.434]
