A novel development of the use of ion-selective electrodes is the incorporation of a very thin ion-selective membrane (C) into a modified metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (A) which is encased in a non-conducting shield (B) (Fig. 15.4). When the membrane is placed in contact with a test solution containing an appropriate ion, a potential is developed, and this potential affects the current flowing through the transistor between terminals Tt and T2. [Pg.563]

Their great strength and conductivity have led to the use of nanotubes in submicroscopic electronic components such as transistors. The rigidity of nanotubes may also allow them to be used as minute molds for other elements. For example, they can be filled with molten lead to create lead wires one atom in diameter and can serve as tiny test tubes that hold individual molecules in place. Nanotubes that are filled with biomolecules such as cytochrome c hold the promise of acting as nanosensors for medical applications. [Pg.728]

Here, it is easy to see the various layers and steps necessary to form the IC. We have already emphasized the formation of the n- and p-wells 8uid the individual proeess steps needed for their formation. Note that an epitaxial layer is used in the above model. There are isolation barriers present which we have already discussed. However, once the polysilicon gate transistors are formed, then metal Interconnects must then be placed in proper position with proper electrical isolation. This is the function of the dielectric layers put into place as succeeding layers on the IC dice. Once this is done, then the wafer is tested. [Pg.333]

The following chapter includes the description of different types of microhotplates that feature resistor and transistor heating elements. Three of them were specifically designed to be monolithically integrated with circuitry, and one was a testing device that was used for the assessment of temperature distributions on the microhotplates. [Pg.29]

Gas test measurements were performed with this device, and a novel sensor operation mode was developed and successfully demonstrated (Sect. 4.5) calorimetric-type signals could be recorded as changes in the source-gate voltage of the transistor while maintaining a constant microhotplate temperature. [Pg.109]

The bombing test is use to check the tightness of components which are already hermetically sealed and which exhibit a gas-filled, internal cavity. The components to be examined (e.g. transistors, 1C housings, dry-reed relays, reed contact sw/itches, quartz oscillators, laser diodes and the like) are placed in a pressure vessel which is filled with helium. Operating with the test gas at relatively high pressure (5 to 10 bar) and leaving the system standing over several hours the test gas (helium) will collect inside the... [Pg.123]

Researchers (Benilova et al., 2006 Arkhypova et al., 2008) are developing a biosensor-based pH-sensitive field-effect transistor technology for rapid determination of glycoalkaloids. The test takes advantage of the anticholinesterase activity of the glycoalkaloids. These tests could hold great promise, analogous to the ELISA test mentioned above. [Pg.131]

Selected experimental agents were evaluated for organic thin-film transistor and solar battery properties. Testing results are provided in Table 2. [Pg.152]

The second alternative is an electronic load. This device is a circuit that has a controllable switch (typically a Darlington configured pair of bipolar transistors or a MOSFET) that can be modulated to conduct any level of current the user desires. An example of an electronic load circuit is presented in this chapter. The electronic load will be constructed piece by piece and tested separately. When all the pieces are constructed and simulated, the whole sum of the electronic load can be assembled and tested as a unit. [Pg.119]

New physics such as the fractional quantum Hall effect has emerged from non-magnetic semiconductor heterostructures. These systems have also been a test bench for a number of new device concepts, among which are quantum well lasers and high electron mobility transistors. Ferromagnetic 111-Vs can add a new dimension to the III-V heterostructure systems because they can introduce magnetic cooperative phenomena that were not present in the conventional III-V materials. [Pg.61]
