Tramp metal

To produce glass bottles, the mixture is prepared ia unit batches. Mixing is critical because complete homogeneity of the batch is necessary to produce quaUty glass. Gullet is added to the batch, usuady at discharge from the mixer. The cudet must be of the same color and basic composition, and be free of contamination such as metal bottie caps and tramp metal scraps.

Unwanted phases snch as liqnid sings, tramp metal, etc., can damage dry flame arrester elements so that they have to be replaced, or they can also block or ping the arrester free-area. ft is not always obvions when an arrester will be impacted by a liqnid sing or tramp metal. However, when this is snspected or has already occnrred in a process, several things can be done to avoid the problem as follows ... 

This explosion could have been prevented with a tramp metal collector, for example, a magnetic trap or a screen. An additional safeguard would be the addition of an inerting gas.

Foreign Matter. Leaves, excess stems, dirt clods, and clusters of unripe second crop grapes cannot be tolerated because they can downgrade wine quality significantly, even in small amounts. Rocks, tramp metal, and lost picking knives can damage equipment. 

The test was in response to problems resulting from TDF burning in a FBC boiler retrofitted from a spreader/stoker design, and located at a Wisconsin power plant.16 Problems during the commercial test indicated that better tramp metal removal was necessary, combustion was not adequate, and that the particulate control device, an electrified filter bed, was not commensurate with the ash levels generated.16... 

The various reduction systems can be classified into knife, hammer, and attrition units, each type producing a characteristic particle. A tramp metal detection system is included in all reduction steps to protect the equipment from serious damage. The shape and integrity of the component particles strongly influence the quality of the resultant particleboard therefore, the optimum in particle preparation is achieved when the desired particle is obtained with no damage to the structure of the wood. Wood failure within the particle will result in a particleboard of lower strength than one formed from intact particles. 

Controlled burning of carbon does not regenerate all catalysts. Catalysts can be deactivated by particle growth, compound formation, tramp metal deposition, crystal-phase changes, and adsorption of catalyst poisons that cannot be reversed by thermal oxidative treatment. 

A basket strainer should be installed ahead of the pump to prevent damage from tramp metal. In addition, it is recommended that a filter be installed on the pump discharge to remove extraneous materials. In cases where it becomes necessary to pump partially solidified fats, the filter should be installed in such a way that it may be bypassed.

The discharge mechanism from the hopper should be fast enough to ensure that the hopper can be emptied before the next delivery. Where the lime is to be reduced in size, a crusher should be installed immediately after the reception hopper so that subsequent handling equipment can be kept as small as possible. A tramp-metal detector should be fitted before the crusher to prevent damage. 

However, the committee has serious concerns about the SCWO system that is used to process the hydrolysates and the slurried dunnage. At the time this report was prepared, not all of the long-term processing tests had been completed. On the basis of results to date, the committee has concerns about the ability of the SCWO reactor to operate continuously for adequate lengths of time. An additional concern is the ability of the size reduction system to remove 100 percent of the tramp metal that comes with the dunnage. If the tramp metal is not removed from the dunnage, the committee beheves it will clog the injectors of the SCWO system and further reduce the system s onhne availability. 

Wood dunnage (e.g., pallets and boxes) is reduced in a dedicated low-speed shredder, hammer mill, and micronizer to produce a fine wood flour suitable for slurrying. Metalscavenging magnets are used at various points in the process to remove tramp metal, such as shredded nails.
