Basket strainers

The suction bell reduces entrance losses and helps to prevent vortices. If you use a basket strainer, the screen area should be four times the area of the entrance pipe. Avoid tight mesh. screens because they clog quickly (Figure 17-8). [Pg.241]

Combine the dry ingredients in a closeable basket strainer. Immerse in hot sake and steep for 2 hours. Add the room-temperature sake and put in a cool place (40 to 55 degrees F). Infuse with the strainer in liquid for 1 week. Remove the strainer. Serve the sake chilled, shaken with ice. The sake will keep for 1 week, refrigerated. [Pg.151]

Because of the HW temperatures involved, metal basket strainers tend to be popular, but in-line bag filters using high temperature-resistant bags are also widely used. The benefit of strainers and bags over cartridges and candle filters is that where iron oxide transport is the primary problem, the iron particles are trapped inside and cannot fall off or otherwise recontaminate the CR system. [Pg.376]

A basket strainer should be installed ahead of the pump to prevent damage from tramp metal. In addition, it is recommended that a filter be installed on the pump discharge to remove extraneous materials. In cases where it becomes necessary to pump partially solidified fats, the filter should be installed in such a way that it may be bypassed. [Pg.2622]

Strainers should be selected so that die pressure drop incurred does not exceed a specified limit with a clean strainer basket (typically 2 psi). Pressure drop versus flow capacity curves for basket strainers are given in Figure 16. This plot provides gross pressure drop for different capacities of water flow at suitable strainer p sizes. The value obtained must be corrected on the basis of the actual fluid viscosity and strainer opening size to be used. These corrections are given in Table 5 and the procedure is as follows ... [Pg.109]

Strainers of this type are normally designed with standard flange faces so that they can be fitted at a suitable flange joint in the pipeline. When removed they can be replaced by a spacer washer. These filters may take the form of a flat disc or a conical basket - some types of strainer basket are shown in Figure 3.1. Flat disc strainers are normally perforated plates, while basket strainers may be of perforated plate or supported wire mesh. Basket strainers can have a higher dirt capacity. [Pg.101]

The principle advantages of basket strainers is that they can provide a greater dirtholding capacity and can have easier access for removing the strainer for cleaning. They normally have a higher pressure drop than simpler Y-type strainers, as can be seen from Figure 3.5. [Pg.103]

The duplex or multi-basket strainer must stiU be watched to check for the need to swap baskets. Self-cleaning strainers may be used as an alternative to dual or multiple strainers where continuous operation is critical in the process system. Two methods of self-cleaning are illustrated in Figure 3.7 - one uses a brush and the other a scraper. Brush cleaning is suitable for most applications, with scraper types more specifically suited for handling high-viscosity products. [Pg.104]
