As in the laboratory scenario, the pressure inside the tank will increase as the temperature of the cylinder increases in the fire. However, when the pressure in the tank reaches about 25-32 atm, the relief valve will open and the gas is released. The jet of gas will likely catch fire since an ignition is available in a fire and the resulting gas becomes a torch. Since the liquid inside the tank has a reasonably good heat capacity, the temperature of the tank does not rise rapidly, and the pressure in the tank cannot go above the relief valve pressure. These two factors delay the rupture of the tank. However, as the gas bums the level of the liquid in the container eventually decreases and a larger surface area of the tank is exposed to fire conditions and temperatures without the benefit of the heat-absorbing liquid inside.
