The problems already mentioned at the solvent/vacuum boundary, which always exists regardless of the size of the box of water molecules, led to the definition of so-called periodic boundaries. Asbestos and other fibers in a wide variety of bundle sizes or even individual fibrils are in commercial usage. The handling of asbestos and other fibers causes degradation of the larger fiber bundles to fibers having diameters less than two micrometers that remain airborne for extended periods of time. Corrosion Resistance. The environment to which a plated part is to be exposed should be a part of any definition of corrosion resistance. Problems arise in testing a part in its intended environment in part because of the long time period required. In many plating processes, corrosion resistance is direcdy proportional to the plate thickness, so a specification on plate thickness is a much faster method of indirectiy measuring corrosion resistance. In specifying a corrosion resistance requirement for the production of plated goods, accelerated tests are used especially if plate thicknesses caimot be related to corrosion protection. [Pg.151]

Accuracy and Repeatability Definitions of terminology pertaining to process measurements can be obtained from standard S5I.I from the International Society of Measurment and Control (ISA) and standard RC20-II from the Scientific Apparatus Manufac turers Association (SAMA), both of which are updated periodically. An appreciation of accuracy and repeatability is especially important. Some apphcations depend on the accuracy of the instrument, but other apphcations depend on repeatability.
