Three-plate

Addition agents for all three plating solutions are as required. [Pg.155]

The efficiency of a distillation apparatus used for purification of liquids depends on the difference in boiling points of the pure material and its impurities. For example, if two components of an ideal mixture have vapour pressures in the ratio 2 1, it would be necessary to have a still with an efficiency of at least seven plates (giving an enrichment of 2 = 128) if the concentration of the higher-boiling component in the distillate was to be reduced to less than 1% of its initial value. For a vapour pressure ratio of 5 1, three plates would achieve as much separation. [Pg.10]

Consequently, the composite elution curve for the total sample originally dispersed over the first three plates will be given by,... [Pg.192]

This type of mould, also often referred to as a three plate mould, is used when it is desired to have the runner system in a different plane from the parting line of the moulding. This would be the case in a multi-cavity mould where it was desirable to have a central feed to each cavity (see Fig. 4.38). In this type of mould there is automatic degating and the runner system and sprue are ejected separately from the moulding. [Pg.290]

The runners and sprues are necessary in a mould but they are not part of the end-product. Unfortunately, it is not economically viable to discard them so they must be re-ground for subsequent reprocessing. Regrinding is expensive and can introduce contamination into the material so that any system which avoids the accumulation of runners and sprues is attractive. A system has been developed to do this and it is really a logical extension of three plate moulding. In this system, strategically placed heaters and insulation in the mould keep the... [Pg.290]

Repeated chromatography in a third dimension after completion of two-dimensional development. Here, development in the first, second, and third dimensions can be envisaged as occurring on three plates arranged in the form of a cube the plate is again dried between developments. [Pg.177]

Figure 8.17 depicts MD-PC performed on three different types of stationary phase (6). The three grafted chromatographic plates (Figure 8.17(a)) are clamped in lap-joint fashion with the edges of their stationary phases in close contact. The manner in which the three plates are prepared and the separation which can theoretically be achieved are also apparent from the schematic diagrams in Figures 8.17(b-d), in which the most polar stationary phase is phase A and the least polar is stationary phase C . [Pg.188]

Consider three consecutive plates in a column, the (p-1), the (p) and the (p+1) plates and let there be a total of (n) plates in the column. The three plates are depicted in figure 1. [Pg.18]

A most recent commercial Nano Indenter (Nano Indenter XP (MTS, 2001)) consists of three major components [66] the indenter head, an optical/atomic force microscope, and x-y-z motorized precision table for positioning and transporting the sample between the optical microscopy and indenter (Fig. 28). The load on the indenter is generated using a voice coil in permanent magnet assembly, attached to the top of the indenter column. The displacement of the indenter is measured using a three plate capacitive displacement sensor. At the bottom of the indenter rod, a three-sided... [Pg.22]

The ShimTec reactor from Chart Industries [18, 19] is an example of a HEX reactor with diffusion-bonded plates (Figure 12.2). The reactor is composed of three plates one process plate sandwiched between two utility plates. All the units are made of 316 stainless steel, unless stated otherwise. Swagelok fittings are used for all the connections. [Pg.266]

By using an in vitro UV-crosslinking approach, bacteria-purified recombinant CPEB3 has been demonstrated to interact with the 2> UTR of GluR2 mRNA. To test whether this interaction occurs in vivo, hippocampal neuron cultures are ultraviolet (UV)-irradiated, homogenized, and immunoprecipitated with CPEB3 IgG or nonspecific IgG (Huang et al, 2006). Three plates of 2- to 3-week-old cultured neurons ( 6—8 million... [Pg.193]

A variation of the disc assay is the quantitative estimate using a central point. Each petri dish contains three reference discs which contain 0.016 units penicillin/mL and three discs saturated with the unknown milk. A penicillinase disc is placed in the center of each plate to help confirm the presence of penicillin. Three plates are used for each milk sample stearothermophilus is the assay organism. After incubation for 2-4 h, zones are measured and compared to the diameters of the reference concentration. Validity of the difference between zone size of the reference and sample is determined statistically. This procedure is less sensitive and attempts to set the qualitative presence of 3-lactams at 0.016 units/mL rather than at lower levels (3). [Pg.147]

A soil is a condensed colloid system because the negatively charged, plateshaped crystals are assembled in parallel or near-parallel alignment, to form stable operational entities, described as clay domains. The crystals within a day domain can be represented by a three-plate crystal model in which one crystal separates the other two crystals to produce a slit-shaped pore, where the crystals overlap. This situation is illustrated in Figure 3.4. [Pg.54]

Consider three consecutive plates in a column, the (p-1), the (p) and the (p+1) plates and let there be a total of (n) plates in the column. The three plate are depicted in figure (1) Let the volumes of mobile phase and stationary phase in each plate be (vm) and (vs) respectively and the concentrations of solute in the mobile and stationary phase in each plate be Xm(p-I), Xs(p-I), Xm(p), Xs(p), Xm(p+1), and Xs(p+d respectively. Let a volume of mobile phase, dV, pass from plate (p-1) into plate (p) at the same time displacing the same volume of mobile phase from plate (p) to plate (p+1). In doing so, there will be a change of mass of solute in plate (p) that... [Pg.16]

Since 1974, Bacillus subtilis EGA has been officially employed as the test organism in the German Hemmstoff test to detect residues of tetracyclines, -lactams and aminoglycosides in kidney and muscle tissues with high sensitivity (72). Macrolides can be also detected, but to a lesser extent, whereas chloramphenicol and sulfonamides are difficult to detect. For better detection of sulfonamides, a modification of this test, the German three-plate inhibition test, was developed. This test is based on the same test organism but uses three pH values (6, 8, and 7.2), with the addition of trimethoprim. The pH relationship between the three... [Pg.809]

The four-plate test was initially based on the German Hemmstoff-test with an additional plate of Sarcina lulea at pH 8.0, designed for the detection of lower levels of macrolides, and a fourth plate of Escherichia coli at pH 7.2 for the detection of sulfonamides (74,75). The modified version adopted by the European Community for screening carcasses is based on three plates with Bacillus subtilis BGA at pH values of 6.0, 8.0, and 7.2 with added trimethoprim, respectively, and a fourth plate with Micrococcus luteus NCTC 8340 at pH 8.0 (74). This test as described elsewhere (76) is intended to detect residues of -lactams, tetracyclines, aminoglycosides, sulfonamides, and macrolides in muscle tissue of slaughtered animals, without any prior extraction or cleanup. [Pg.813]

Another test that has been adapted by the Center for Veterinary Drug Residues, Saskatoon, Canada, to screen muscle samples from imported carcasses is the cube inhibition test (CIT) (83). Tissue preparation is similar to that in the German three-plate test in that tissue cubes are placed on seeded media. The organism is Bacillus subtilis, two different agar plates are used, and incubation is carried out at 37 C for 18-24 h. [Pg.813]

The NKDT test is sensitive to residues of -lactams, tetracyclines, and macrolides. It is more sensitive to sulfonamides than the German three-plate test or the EU four-plate test, but it is relatively insensitive to aminoglycosides. With respect to MRLs set for liver or kidney, the NKDT is too insensitive for aminoglycosides, sulfonamides, and macrolides. One analyst can complete 150-200 tests per day. Due to the high ratio of residue levels in preurine and muscle, a negative result of this test implies that residue levels in muscle are below the limit of detection. [Pg.817]
