Vehicle manufacturers often provide prospective component suppliers with a drawing of the item required. The consensus principles remain valid at the enquiry stage, too. When the approval requirements have not met the enquiry draft, comments shall be discussed at a meeting of the committees (TC 147, SC 2) or of the working group, or a revised enquiry draft for voting on it, or a revised committee draft for comments shall be prepared and circulated. 

Approval requirements for the FDIS are identical to those at the enquiry stage (see above). 

Unique acceptance procedure (UAP) The oiganization (CEN or ISO) that wants to adopt an available standard method fix)m the other organization submits it to its own adoption, voting, and pubhcation procedures. The approved standard to be transferred will be balloted at the enquiry stage of the adopting oiganization (ISO/DIS or CEN enquiry, respectively). After the positive vote the adopted document can be finalized and pubUshed. 

There are always changes being made to the building, plant layout, etc. and there is a constant flow of contractors of one sort or another. Since they can be working in areas where employees are working, a system of strict control of contractors has been implemented. This starts at the enquiry stage which outlines the conditions the contractor must meet and includes a section on health and safety. Following the consensus principle in ISO, every attempt shall be made to resolve all of the negative votes and comments received. That may require the preparation and circulation of a second or subsequent versions of the committee draft im-til consensus has been reached or a decision to postpone or withdraw the project has been made. When the approval requirements have been met, an enquiry draft can be circulated. Ideally, the period between Stage 4 and Stage 5 should be used to organize and evaluate an interlaboratory trial (see Section 1.3.6). The performance characteristics obtained should be sent out with the proposal for the enquiry draft. 

Three of the standards preparation stages require a vote in some form or another, with, at the enquiry and approval stages, a precise requirement for acceptability of the standard, in that a given proportion of the votes cast need to be approval votes. However, much of the work, especially in the early stages, depends on the achievement of consensus, which has an official ISO definition as follows ... 

When a company receives an enquiry about manufacturing a rubber component, the first stage of the quotation process is an assessment of the process and materials needed to satisfy the customer. The information supplied by the customer should contain all the key elements that will enable decisions to be made. It is necessary to examine four issues. 

At each stage of input a question data correct and y/n answer system is prepared. By calling the data file again the contents can be modified and/or corrected according to the enquiry system. After the correction or modification a new file name can be given independently of the previous file name but giving the same file name to the previous one cancels the previous file. 

A wide range of types of contract exist covering all likely combinations from Turnkey to full reimbursable contracts. At the enquiry or bid stage of the project the definitions of responsibility must be carefiilly considered together with the general Conditions of Contract,... 

At this stage of my enquiry 1 can draw only a few tentative conclusions from the case-histories presented above. I shall return at the end of the book to the issue of how disciplines evolve and when, to adopt biological parlance, a new discipline becomes self-fertile. 

The GMC secretariat will acknowledge receipt of the statutory declaration, and will subsequently request any additional documents considered necessary to process the case before or after it has been considered by the preliminary screener. Materials control may be initiated from the single-point entry of an item on a drawing or schedule, and from there automatically taken through the stages of roll-up, enquiry, purchase (and, maybe separately, addition to construction contract schedule), inspection, despatch, payment, site stores control, and information recall for maintenance purposes. 

At this stage there was still no statutory requirement to have boilers inspected, but, as the 20th century approached, the evidence of over 1000 enquiries held under the Boiler Explosions Act clearly demonstrated the value of regular thorough inspections by competent engineers. The result,...
