The Brainstorming Process

Although the knowledge and expertise of the people involved in the brainstorming process is absolutely respectable, certain safety aspects may be overlooked as it might be considered natural from their point of view, while to a person outside the profession it might be something completely new and thus causing concern. 

Since by definition the brainstorming session ought to be stmctured to encourage the unfettered thinking and participation of the people involved, the contribution by people with less expertise in the subject would be a positive one, as they might bring up safety issues, which otherwise would have been overlooked. 

2 Need for Interaction with Other Industries Safety and Quality Management 

FSA for ships should develop the ability to interact with regulatory bodies responsible for land-based operations. Sharing the relevant data of non-compliance with established safety and quality standards for shore-based industries would eliminate a considerable percentage of the uncertainty created in this direction.

The next sections describe strategies for innovation to reduce overall environmental impact for each of the five different categories described above. These can be used to assist the brainstorming process. 

Brainstorm and discuss possible ways to reduce the hazards (a checklist such as the one in Appendix A-2 can be used as an aid to the brainstorming process). 

First, accept that many of those ideas will never go farther than your brainstorming notes. Think of the brainstorming process of as a type of rehearsal, in which you try on different ideas or approaches. You won t be able to use them all. Instead, you ll choose the very best for your performance (your essay). Somewhere in your brainstorming notes is at least one great idea that you can develop into an effective essay. 

After a Research Proposal topic is selected (refer back to the Writing on Your Own task in chapter 11), it is time to specify project goals and objectives. Consider guestions such as these to begin the brainstorming process ... 

In a separate meeting, the core assessment team will revisit the options generated during the brainstorming process to reduce the number of credible ideas carried forward. 

Students reacted with real interest, showing even emotional involvement (many had had relatives or friends killed in car accidents) and had many questions. After that they were ready to move to the next step in the brainstorming process. 

Short descriptions of all the ideas were prepared, and the idea-finding part of the brainstorming process ended with everybody congratulating the other participants on their success. 

As with any team effort, the quality of the leadership is critical. The leader must somehow allow people to dream up potentially bizarre situations in anticipation that one or two of these situations will actually turn out to be plausible. At the same time, he or she has to keep the hazards analysis on track in terms of schedule and budget. Also, some team members enjoy the brainstorming process so much that they become counterproductive in terms of overall team effort. The leader needs to keep them focused. 

The following examples are by no means intended to be suggestions for great games. Rather, they re here to demonstrate the brainstorming process I ve been discussing. Let s mix and match types of gameplay, just to see what happens. 

This is probably the most difficult and important part of the application process, but prewriting and brainstorming are a great help. Once you try on each topic, it will become clear which one(s) allows you to present yourself and your story best. Which one can you make the best emotional connection with That s the one that will connect with your readers, too.

When the team has developed a good understanding of the manufacturing process and the source and cause of each waste stream, it should convene to brainstorm for ideas to reduce the generation of these materials. 

Develop a corrective action plan Identify all possible solutions. Using brainstorming, correlation analysis, polling, and consensus techniques, prioritize the list of solutions. Perform a barrier analysis, defining driving forces that will help the improvement process to succeed as well as restraining forces that may hold the team back. 

A single analyst can perform an event tree analysis, but normally a team of 2 to 4 people is preferred. The team approach promotes "brainstorming tliat results in a well defined event tree structure. Tlie team sliould include at least one member witli knowledge of event tree analysis, witli tlie remaining members lia dng e.xperience in tlie operations of tlie systems and knowledge of the chemical processes tliat are to be of interest in tlie analysis.
