Brainstorming Process

The next sections describe strategies for innovation to reduce overall environmental impact for each of the five different categories described above. These can be used to assist the brainstorming process. 

Brainstorm and discuss possible ways to reduce the hazards (a checklist such as the one in Appendix A-2 can be used as an aid to the brainstorming process). 

First, accept that many of those ideas will never go farther than your brainstorming notes. Think of the brainstorming process of as a type of rehearsal, in which you try on different ideas or approaches. You won t be able to use them all. Instead, you ll choose the very best for your performance (your essay). Somewhere in your brainstorming notes is at least one great idea that you can develop into an effective essay. 

After a Research Proposal topic is selected (refer back to the Writing on Your Own task in chapter 11), it is time to specify project goals and objectives. Consider guestions such as these to begin the brainstorming process ... 

In a separate meeting, the core assessment team will revisit the options generated during the brainstorming process to reduce the number of credible ideas carried forward. 

Students reacted with real interest, showing even emotional involvement (many had had relatives or friends killed in car accidents) and had many questions. After that they were ready to move to the next step in the brainstorming process. 

Short descriptions of all the ideas were prepared, and the idea-finding part of the brainstorming process ended with everybody congratulating the other participants on their success. 

As with any team effort, the quality of the leadership is critical. The leader must somehow allow people to dream up potentially bizarre situations in anticipation that one or two of these situations will actually turn out to be plausible. At the same time, he or she has to keep the hazards analysis on track in terms of schedule and budget. Also, some team members enjoy the brainstorming process so much that they become counterproductive in terms of overall team effort. The leader needs to keep them focused. 

Identify initiating events based on a facilitated brainstorming process supported by a check list. 

The leaders of the "Game Tuning Workshop" gave an exercise that used, In effect, incongruence. But here incongruence was used as part of a brainstorming process. 

The following examples are by no means intended to be suggestions for great games. Rather, they re here to demonstrate the brainstorming process I ve been discussing. Let s mix and match types of gameplay, just to see what happens. 

Hazard checklists provide a brainstorming process for recognizing hazard possibilities brought about by the unique system design and the hazard sources that are used in the system. A hazard checkhst should never be considered a complete and hnal list but merely a mechanism or catalyst for stimulating hazard recognition. 

Although the knowledge and expertise of the people involved in the brainstorming process is absolutely respectable, certain safety aspects may be overlooked as it might be considered natural from their point of view, while to a person outside the profession it might be something completely new and thus causing concern.
