Textile Testing

Textile measuring and testing processes are used to characterize fibers, rovings, yarns, textile structures, clothing, and carpets. Tests on fiber- and textile-reinforced composites are in a special field. These textile properties are important for trade (such as terms of delivery) and allow a comparison of the product quality of different companies (for example, USTER-Statistics). 

In textile testing processes, many influencing factors must be considered  

In order to ensure that the testing results of different laboratories are comparable and reproducible, for nearly all testing methods, standards have been established. They describe specimen preparation, testing method, number of tests, and the respective evaluation methods. 

In addition, there are many other national organizations, for exampie, in the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and Austria. 

All standards published by these bodies are assigned a unique number (for example, DIN EN ISO 1889, Reinforcement yarns Determination of linear density ).

Other organizations also set up standard definitions for special purposes—for example, the Trade Standards Division of the U. S.
