Tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate

European Commission Commission Communication on the Results of the Risk Evaluation and Risk Reduction Strategies for the Substances Tetrasodium Ethylenediaminetetraacetate. Off. J. Eur. Union 2006/C 90/04. [Pg.306]

Chelants at concentrations of 0.1 to 0.2% improve the oxidative stabihty through the complexation of the trace metal ions, eg, iron, which catalyze the oxidative processes. Examples of the chelants commonly used are pentasodium diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), sodium etidronate (EHDP), and citric acid. Magnesium silicate, formed in wet soap through the reaction of magnesium and siHcate ions, is another chelant commonly used in simple soap bars. [Pg.158]

Stabilizers. All methacrylate monomers must contain some free-radical inhibitor if they are to be shipped and stored safely. Hydroquinone and p-methoxyphenol are most commonly used for this purpose. Most formulations will also contain benzoquinone, naphthoquinone, and similar stabilizers. Since the anaerobic compositions are strongly catalyzed by traces of metals, many formulators have found it advantageous to add chelators such as tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) (V). [Pg.751]

Another approach which has been taken by many researchers for chain extension of polyesters is the use of di or poly-epoxy compounds. Diepoxides, usually of molecular weight between 100 and 1200 have been used, often with catalysts such as tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate [195], alkali metal halides [200], or alkali metal borates [207]. N,N -bis(glycidyl ester)pyromellitimides have been investigated [170, 171], as have digycidyltetrahydrophthalate [172], di- or poly-substituted diphenylpropane and related substances [205]. It has also been suggested that, for ease of handling and addition, such compounds may be combined with a titanium dioxide carrier [209]. [Pg.160]

The polyacrylic elastomers were prepared by emulsion polymerization. The monomers, water, emulsifiers (i.e., sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium salt of polymerized naphthalene sulfonic acid), tetrasodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate, and sodium ferric salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid were charged to the reactor vessel equipped with an agitator. The temperature of the reactor vessel was controlled at 10 C. The reactor was evacuated to remove air, closed and the emulsion agitated. Sodium sulfate, sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylate and paramenthane hydroperoxide were then charged to the reactor. The reaction time was 12 hours. The conversions to copolymers were 93 - 97% (Table 1). [Pg.222]

EDA reacts with formaldehyde and sodium cyanide under the appropriate alkaline conditions to yield the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (24). By-product ammonia is removed at elevated temperatures under a partial vacuum. The free acid or its mono-, di-, or trisodium salts can be produced by the appropriate neutrali2ation using a strong mineral acid. This same reaction with other amines is used to produce polyamino acetic acids and their salts. These products are used widely as chelating agents. [Pg.42]

Secondary antioxidants, i.e., sequestrants or chelators, are important compounds in the prevention of lipid oxidation. The effect of chelators tested varied with the different compounds. Of those chelators tested, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA, tetrasodium salt) and sodium phytate were the most effective inhibitors of lipid oxidation (so indicated by low hexanal and TEARS values) and MFD (as seen by high CBB and low PIT and CBD intensity values), see Table 5. Sodium phytate was previously shown to chelate iron and thus, was proposed as a food antioxidant(7J). Sodium citrate at a concentration of 500... [Pg.65]

The phosphane analogue of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is obtained as an air-stable monohydrate of the tetrasodium salt (30). The phosphory-lated derivative of maleic acid 4 was synthesized in 1993 (31). [Pg.479]

The MCM-41 of disordered mesopore has been synthesized by Ryoo et al.[16] in the alkaline media(pH=10.2) using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetrasodium salt. The pore structure was influenced by the use of different solvents under the same reaction conditions. [Pg.784]

A. r>itr>o80-tert-oetane To a 1-L, three-necked flask equipped with an addition funnel, a mechanical stirrer, and a thermometer are added 120 ml of methanol, 51.7 g of tert-octylamine (0.4 mol) and 90 mL of water containing 1.2 g (0. 0028 mol) of the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and 2.52 g (0. 0076 mol) of sodium tungstate dihydrate. The solution is cooled to 15°C in an ice bath and hydrogen peroxide (361 mL of a 16% solution, 1.7 mol) (Notes 1 and 2) is added over 5 hr. The blue reaction mixture is stirred for an additional 16 hr and the product is extracted with petroleum ether (3 x 50 mL). Unreacted amine is removed by washing twice with 2 N hydrochloric acid. After the blue organic layer is washed with brine, it is dried over MgS04. Petroleum ether is removed by distillation at atmospheric pressure. Continued distillation of the product affords 29.7 g of nitroso-tert-octane... [Pg.84]

As the versatile applicability of these compounds increased, more manufacturers began to make them, with the resulting multitude of trade names. The tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid appears to be the most versatile complexing agent, with one mole reacting with one mole of a divalent metal ion. It is used in scouring textile material, in preparation of print pastes, in dyeing with disperse colors when hard water is used in the process, etc. [Pg.95]
