Foreign exchange

If a U.S. company is selling a good or service to a buyer in another country and agrees to receive currency in other than U.S. dollars, it is likely that the foreign currency will fluctuate in value prior payment. If the foreign currency depreciates (U.S. dollar appreciates in comparison) between the time goods or services are sold for a certain price and the time the customer pays, their payment will actually convert into fewer U.S. dollars. In this case, the company loses money. 

In the example below, a company agrees to a payment of 100,000 Euros, worth 130,000 U.S. dollars with the exchange rate of 1.30 at the time of the agreement with the buyer. Then the Euro appreciates

Where the process is a labor intensive, low-cost workers are required in numbers (for example, textiles and clothing). The cost of capital has little effect on the choice of location as capital sources can be from anywhere. The ability, however, to repatriate profits and the proceeds from the sales of assets and exposure to foreign exchange risk are important if the location options are abroad. This factor becomes more relevant, the greater the capital intensity of the project.

Prices in France were 30% lower than U.S. prices, and prices in the other countries about 15% lower (Danzon and Furukawa 2003, Exhibit 3). 

The cooling water account looks to be worth a considerable amount of money ( 1.5 to 2.0 million per year ). Technical service and the available expertise provided to site appears distinctly limited Are the chemicals imported from Europe (foreign exchange required) Are some products locally or regionally made Could some chemicals be... 

The chemicals are all imported from Europe. Any future proposals should include ways to reduce total expenditure, foreign exchange, and stock levels. The customer would not wish to change from the basic type of chemical program currently supplied, but would welcome ideas on better program management. 

Consider regional manufacturing of the primary inhibitor to reduce product purchase costs and limit foreign exchange demands.
