Palm oil[8002-75-3] is derived from the fleshy fmit of the palm tree rather than the nut as with palm kernel oil. Palm oil has a longer chain length distribution than palm kernel oil and provides properties and compositions more similar to tallow than to other vegetable oils (see Table 1).

Compound 1080 was also effective against jackrabbits, foxes, and moles. Baits containing 0.05 to 0.1% 1080 on vegetables were used in California to kill jackrabbits (Lepus spp.) and various rodents (Schitoskey 1975). The Arctic fox (Alopex lagopus), intentionally introduced onto the Aleutian Islands in 1835 (Bailey 1993), almost eliminated the Aleutian Canada goose (Branta canadensis leucoparlia) by 1967. 1080-tallow baits were successfully used to control fox populations (Byrd et al. 1988 Tietjen et al. 1988 Bailey 1993). Earthworm baits are used to kill moles. The earthworms are soaked for 45 min in a 2.5% solution of 1080 and placed in mole burrows. The solution can be used several times for additional lots of worms however, the use of the manure worm (Eisenia foetida) should be avoided because it is seldom eaten by moles (Peacock 1964). 

The sources of oils and fats are various vegetable and animal raw materials (e.g., tallow, lard), with the vegetable raw materials soybean, palm, rapeseed and sun-... 

Abherents. Compounds capable of promoting separation of two substances such as plastic or rubber products from the metal molds in which they are formed. Common release agents are waxy or fatty-Uke materials such as wax, tallow, or vegetable oil. 

Certain vegetable and animal fats have been used as dampproofers and again emulsions or pastes are preferred and typical formulations are given in Table 4.3 [10]. The fat can be white grease, tallow or soya bean oil and although they all produce hydrophobic concrete, different effects on compressive strength are obtained. 

Vegetable oil based fuels were used as diesel fuel in some Asian and African countries during World War II. Raw materials appropriate for use in producing oils suitable for combustion in a diesel engine include soybeans, cottonseed, rape seed, peanuts, safflower, canola, sunflower, and com. Processed cooling oil and beef tallow have also been used as raw material sources.

Another method of producing the same effect— claimed aIbo in the same patent—consists in adding to the gutta-percha and its compounds when passing through the masticating machine, and whether they are mixed or not with orpiment or any other sulphide, about ten por cent, of vegetal wax or tallow. 

Materials,—The materials used in the manufacture of soap, are the various kinds of oil or fat, resin, and the alkalies, potassa and soda. All oils and fats of whatever kind, vegetal or animal, yield soaps, when treated with alkali, as will he subsequently described. Only a very limited number, however, is used in thiB manufacture and these such as may be obtained at a very low price compared with that of the others. In Great Britain palm-oil is probably consumed in greater quantity than any other, and principally in the production of hard soap for soft soaps, the various kiuds of fish-oils, the drying oils from seeds, and tallow are mostly employed. 

Many alcohols are prepared by reduction of the corresponding methyl esters which are derived from animal or vegetable fats, These alcohols are straight chain even-carbon-numbered compounds. Tallow and coconut oil are two major raw materials for higher alcohol manufacture. 

Plant oils and animal fat samples (vegetable oils, tallow, lard, fish oils) do not need to be extracted before methylation. A small amount of these samples (10 to 20 mg) can be subjected to the methylation procedures directly.
