The details of how one enters questions ahead of time in clicker software or in presentation software such as PowerPoint are varied, depending on the specihc provider and indeed on the specific version of the software, and thus will not be discussed here. However, in nearly all cases, it is possible to enter questions ahead of time, whether in the PowerPoint presentation or in the clicker software itself. Whether one method is better is a matter of personal taste. It is possible that the clicker software may have better support than PowerPoint for the various symbols, arrows, superscripts and subscripts, and diagrams that are required for many common chemistry questions, but it is also possible that the clicker software may be more limited in this regard. The author uses a tablet computer and writes on Journal files produced from Word documents, and thus writes the questions on the document, often on a blank page to leave room for working the solution after the question is done. 

In the future, it is likely that clickers will be relics of an age gone by. Students already have cell phones and other devices, which may assume the place of clickers. As their costs decline, PDAs, tablet computers, and other technology may take the place of the clickers that students use today. It is possible, too, that the next innovation may be as yet unknown. Not long ago, it was not thought that the features of modern clicker systems would be available in every classroom on a campus.

UbiTable-Inspired Figure 2(a) shows the digital setup inspired by the UbiTable system. This system uses four small computers (two notebooks and two tablet computers) as the users private space, and each user s screen top is connected to a large display. Users can handle their contents on their own screen as private space and transfer them to the large display as public space by moving them to the top of then-own screen. Essentially, users can use the large display and their own small computers seamlessly, but cannot access each other s small computers. This system did not support personal or shared spaces.

Man-machine interfaces do also undergo major changes.
