A system is a convenient concept that is used to describe how the individual parts of anything (a system) are perceived to interact. System concepts are used by many disciplines and may form a common framework to support global environmental studies. A system definition must start with the identification of the boundaries of the system of interest. Next, the inputs and outputs to that system must be identified.
