A system is a convenient concept that is used to describe how the individual parts of anything (a system) are perceived to interact. System concepts are used by many disciplines and may form a common framework to support global environmental studies. A system definition must start with the identification of the boundaries of the system of interest. Next, the inputs and outputs to that system must be identified. The inputs and outputs of subsystems are the conventional linkages to other subsystems and facilitate the integration of any part of the system into the whole. As discussed previously, it is important that a common and consistent set of units be selected to describe these inputs and outputs. Once the inputs and outputs... [Pg.9]

I function which carries maximum information about that system. Definition of the -function itself, depends on a probability aggregate or quantum-mechanical ensemble. The mechanical state of the systems of this ensemble cannot be defined more precisely than by stating the -function. It follows that the same -function and hence the same mechanical state must be assumed for all systems of the quantum-mechanical ensemble. A second major difference between classical and quantum states is that the -function that describes the quantum-mechanical ensemble is not a probability density, but a probability amplitude. By comparison the probability density for coordinates q is... [Pg.452]

This author has classified the theory of the method with respect to physical model and mathematical model. The physical model can be broken down into system definition, descriptive definition of the sought quantity, measurands, and main assumptions. The mathematical model can be divided into mathematical definition of the sought quantities, and mathematical relationship between sought quantity and measurands. [Pg.78]

Even under fixed outer components concentration, the simple "narrow place" behavior could be spoiled by branching or by reverse reactions. For such reaction systems definition of a limiting step simply as a step with the smallest constant does not work. The simplest example is given by the cycle Aj <-> A2- As Ai. Even if the constant of the last step As- Aj is the smallest one, the stationary rate may be much smaller than ksb (where b is the overall balance of concentrations, b = C1+C2+C3), if the constant of the reverse reaction A2->Ai is sufficiently big. [Pg.106]
