This chapter illustrates how templates have been used to aid organic synthesis and attempts to refine and expand the definition of a molecular template. The later chapters in this book demonstrate that templates are emerging as powerful tools in many areas of molecular construction. We have highlighted the key parameters required to evaluate template effects quantitatively. We hope this will encourage pioneers in the field to calibrate new systems, so that we can gauge their progress as they escalate to higher levels of efficiency and sophistication. [Pg.33]

CFR 50.2, "Definitions", defines station blackout as the loss of the offsite electric power system concurrent with a turbine trip and unavailability of the onsite emergency AC power system. It does not include the loss of available AC power to buses fed by station batteries through inverters or by alternate AC sources. Since many systems required for core decay heat removal and containment heat removal depend on AC power, a station blackout can result in unacceptable consequences unless AC power is restored in a timely manner or AC power is supplied from an alternate source. The issue involves the likelihood and duration of station blackout and the potential for core damage as a result. [Pg.252]

Recognizing the diversity of applications for emergency power supply systems, the National Fire Protection Association (MTA) Committee on Emergency Power Supphes (NFPA Standard 110) has adopted the following system definitions based on type, class, category, and level. [Pg.724]

A reliable communication system is definitely needed between a nuclear power plant and the relevant offices, including the regulatory body located outside the plant site during and after an accident. Special consideration has to be given in maintaining the system function for internal and external events such as fire and earthquake.
