Synthesis and formation

Carbon bromide fluoride is formed in a flow system with a yieid of 30% when a mixture of dinitrogen (saturated with dibromine), molecular fluorine, and carbon monoxide are passed simultaneously through a copper tube [1751]. No further details of this preparation are available, but if it is probably consistent with the stoicheiometry shown in Equation (16.7). [Pg.724]

The product (90% yield based on BrFj) was purified by passing through antimony powder, followed by distillation (in quartz equipment) to separate it from COFj. [Pg.725]

In their modified preparation based upon Equation (16.8), Patty and Lagemann [1596] used a vacuum system constructed of copper vessels and tubing, with inspection traps constructed of a fluoropolymer. The system was conditioned with ClFg before introduction of the reactants. The carbon monoxide was slowly passed through the liquid BrFg, which was held in the reaction vessel maintained at 60 C. [Pg.725]

Unlike the acid-catalyzed ether cleavage reaction discussed in the previous section, which is general to all ethers, the Claisen rearrangement is specific to allyl aryl ethers, Ar—O—CH2CH = CH2. Treatment of a phenoxide ion with 3-bromopropene (allyl bromide) results in a Williamson ether synthesis and formation of an allyl aryl ether. Heating the allyl aryl ether to 200 to 250 °C then effects Claisen rearrangement, leading to an o-allylphenol. The net result is alkylation of the phenol in an ortho position. [Pg.659]

We differentiate between synthesis and formation because in many cases a substrate may be carbonylated resulting in the formation of a given carbonyl complex, however, this may not necessarily be considered as a viable synthetic route to the carbonyl complex in question. The original intent of the investigators may not have been to develop a new route to this carbonyl complex, but rather only to study the reaction of CO with the substrate. [Pg.318]

When the creation of long-term memories— repeated stimulations interrupted by rest periods—was simulated in this preparation by repeated pulses of serotonin, anatomical changes occurred. Specifically, new synaptic connections were created. It is likely that there are two underlying components to formation of new synaptic connections. One is local protein synthesis in the nerve terminal and the other is CREB (cAMP response element binding) dependent transcription in the neuronal nucleus. Of course, serotoiun pulses also stimulated the release of glutamate. So now the question is how repeated pulses of serotonin are related to protein synthesis and formation of new synapses. [Pg.313]

Methyl groups at positions 5, 9 and 13 on retinal are not a necessity for pigment formation. This was shown by synthesis and formation of visual pigment analogs from 5-desmethyl, 17 [145], 9-desmethyl, 18 [70,176-180], 13-desmethyl, 19 [176-180] and 9,13-desmethylretinal, 20 [70,176,177],... [Pg.309]

Biotin forms part of several enzyme systems and is necessary for normal growth and body function. Biotin functions as a cofactor for enzymes involved in carbon dioxide fixation and transfer. These reactions are important in the metaboHsm of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, as well as promotion of the synthesis and formation of nicotinic acid, fatty acids, glycogen, and amino acids (5—7). Biotin is absorbed unchanged in the upper part of the small intestine and distributed to all tissues. Highest concentrations are found in the Hver and kidneys. Little information is available on the transport and storage of biotin in humans or animals. A biotin level in urine of approximately 160 nmol/24 h or 70 nmol/L, and a circulating level in blood, plasma, or serum of approximately 1500 pmol/L seems to indicate an adequate supply of biotin for humans. However, reported levels for biotin in the blood and urine vary widely and are not a reHable indicator of nutritional status. [Pg.27]

Also see color figure.) Hepatic vitamin K metabolism. Oral anticoagulant drugs act indirectly on the process of glu carboxylation of the vitamin K dependent proteins. The vitamin K antagonists block the reduction of the reaction intermediate, vitamin K-epoxide, that results in the accumulation of vitamin K-epoxide and other nonfunctional forms of vitamin K. Without cycling of the vitamin K-related reaction intermediates in the cycle shown, a depletion of functional vitamin K occurs. Vitamin K antagonists do not block polypeptide synthesis and formation of noncarboxylated proteins occurs. These noncarboxylated proteins are still secreted from the liver and account for nearly normal levels of each of the vitamin K-dependent proteins that can be detected by immunoassay (sometimes called PIVKA, proteins induced in vitamin K absence). [Pg.863]

Synthetic polyelectrolytes (PEs) play a very important role in science, technique and medicine at present. At the same time constant broadening of these polymers application spheres is observed. As a consequence we observe the growth of requirements for creation of novel polyelectrolytes - polymers and copolymers of prescribed chemical and stereochemical structure and molecular mass. This fact stimulates investigations of synthesis and formation mechanism of this class of polymer compounds. It is also obvious that the most simple and convenient methods of PEs preparation are the reactions of ionizing monomers radical polymerization and copolymerization. [Pg.361]
