Directive due to boost EU renewable energy use to 20% by 2020. The latter also aims for a substitution of 10% of transport fuels by biofuels in 2020 as a mandatory target for the Member States. Many of these developments result from a public-private partnership, they have far longer and richer histories of urban growth compared to the U.S. European edge cities also try to meet high sustainability standards (Bontje, 2004 Phelps, Nick, Dimitris, Andrew, 2006). As a result European edge cities are not a direct copy of American models. 

Water Quality. AH commercial oil shale operations require substantial quantities of water. AH product water is treated for use and operations are permitted as zero-discharge facHities. In the Unocal operation, no accidental releases of surface water have occurred during the last four years of sustained operations from 1986 to 1990. The Unocal Parachute Creek Project compliance monitoring program of ground water, surface water, and process water streams have indicated no adverse water quaHty impacts and no violations of the Colorado Department of Health standards (62). 

Terminal Stream Compositions and Quantities These are basically linked to an arbitrary given the produc tion capacity of the leaching plant (rate of extrac t production or rate of raw-material purification by extrac tion). When options are permitted, the degree of solute remov and the concentration of the extrac t stream chosen are those that maximize process economy while sustaining conformance to regulatory standards. 

As standard practice, all motors are designed for a balanced and virtually sinusoidal supply system, but it may not be feasible to obtain the designed supply conditions in practice. Hence, a motor is designed with a certain in-built capacity to sustain small amounts of voltage unbalances and some degree of harmonic quantities, such that the voltage waveform may still be regarded as sinusoidal. 

In order to study the influence of surface disorder in the MM reaction, Frachenbourg et al. [91] have considered a substratum which has two types of randomly distributed sites with different adsorption rates. It is found that such a kind of disorder can sustain a reactive steady state, in contrast to the standard MM process on homogeneous surfaces.

In both the materials used and the construction process, sustainability and efficiency will become standard. Improvements mjob site management and building design will reduce waste and cost of construction. Materials such as engineered wood, recycled carpeting, and cellulose insulation, which have lower environmental impact, will become cheaper and more widely available. Not only are buildings constructed with such material friendlier to the environment, they also provide higher-quality, lower-cost solutions. 

Maximum. standard brake horsepower. At any rotational speed, maximum standard brake horsepower shall be the greatest horsepower, corrected to standard conditions, that can be sustained continuously under conditions as outlined under test procedure. The unit of horsepower is 33,000 ft-lb/min or 550 ft-lb/s. Standard conditions for the purpose of internal combustion engine testing and rating is 85°F(29.4°C) and 29.38 in. of mercury (99kPa). Note these values are different from standard conditions for gas and air volume specifications.

The capability of advanced technologies in the production of regenerated water for industrial reuse has been illustrated in this chapter. The reuse of regenerated water in industrial activities has been demonstrated as an effective tool for sustainable industrial development under water scarcity conditions as it can provide a big deal of the large amounts of water needed in those activities and moreover it can customize the regenerated water characteristics to the water standards required in different industrial activities by means of adequate combination of available advanced technologies.
