Supported construct

Fire-related barriers or partitions are those walls that are supported in some manner by the building s structural frame, floor, ceiling, or roof. These walls rely upon the integrity of the supporting construction to remain in place and to withstand a given fire duration. Refer to Section 7.3.1.1. [Pg.313]

Keeney and Raiffa (1976, pp. 66-130) describe several ways of how to construct such value functions. If no directly measurable attributes exist for an objective, a scale that maps verbal descriptions with a numerical value indicating the decision maker s strength of preference has to be defined. The MACBETH (Measuring Attractiveness by a Categorical Based Evaluation Technique) procedure offers a pairwise comparison approach to support constructing such a scale (cf. Bana e Costa et al. 2005). [Pg.137]

In this technique, a wax-like material, which is solid at room temperature, is melted and deposited by inkjet onto a substrate. The wax solidifies upon cooling, before a new layer of liquid wax is deposited. Support constructions are built in the same way as model construction layers and use the same material. [Pg.260]

In this method, the slices are formed, layer by layer, by a process of selective Inkjet deposition of UV curable liquid compositions and immediate solidification by exposure to flood UV radiation. The support construction is built in the same way as the slices of the 3D object, but using a different material. The support material is generally a UV curable gel-like material which enables easy removal and leaves a well-defined and smooth object surface. [Pg.260]

In SLA, support constructions are built using the same material used to build the desired 3D object. This represents probably one of the main drawbacks of this technology. The use of a single material to build the desired 3D object and support construction results in the need to invest relatively extensive labor in order to remove the support structure, as well as for object finishing, e.g., polishing. [Pg.261]

Four recent examples of universal linkers/supports, in which the first nucleoside is anchored onto the preformed linker-support construct, are shown in Fig. 2.14. The disulfide linker 2.33 has been used to prepare terminal 3 -phosphate ONs (94, 95) through cleavage with a solution of ammonia in dithiothreitol. The photolabile linker 2.34 (96) is used to prepare 3 -alkyl carboxylic acids. The allyl-based linker 2.35 (97) is used to prepare free 3 -OH ONs by cleavage with Pd(0) and treatment with an aqueous buffer at pH 10. The linker 2.36 (98) differs from those discussed so far in... [Pg.61]

Shore overdevelopment disrupts natural habitats and increases pollution. Shorelines that are built up with dirt to support construction of buildings can crush wet, rocky areas that some lake species use for spawning. In addition, shoreline plant life is sometimes removed to create sandy, recreational areas, and the influx of people usually increases pollution. [Pg.47]

Filters are available in several constructions, effective filtration areas, and configurations. Depending on the individual process, the filter construction and setup will be chosen to fit its purpose best. Most commonly used for RO filters are tubular devices, so-called spiral wound modules due to the spiral configuration of the membrane within the support construction of such device. UF systems can be found as a spiral wound module, a hollow fiber, or a cassette device. The choice of the individual construction depends on the requirements and purposes towards the UF device. Similar to the different membrane materials, UF device construction has to be evaluated in the specific applications to reach an optimal functioning of the unit. Microfilters and depth filters can be lenticular modules or sheets but are mainly cylindrical filter elements of various sizes and filtration areas, from very small scale of 300 cm to large scale devices of 36 m. A 10-inch high cylindrical filter element can be seen in Fig. 6. [Pg.1752]

The actual fuel elements in pressurized water reactors consist of individual fuel rods and control rod tubes mounted in a self-supporting construction of spacers fitted with a top and feet. Fuel elements for boiling water reactors, by comparison, have no control rod tubes, the fuel element zirkaloy claddings being used to guide the control rods and the coolant. [Pg.614]

Very recently, a polymer-supported construct for quantifying the reactivity of monomers involving multicomponent Ugi strategies was reported [53]. The authors investigated the Ugi four-component condensation of a set of aldehydes, acids, and isonitriles. The amine compound used was bound to a specially modified Rink amide polystyrene resin bearing an ionization leveler and bromine functionality as a mass splitter for accurate analysis by positive electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The microwave-assisted experiment was performed with a set of ten carboxylic acids, hydrocinnamaldehyde, and cyclohexyl isonitrile in DCM-... [Pg.745]

Former electricity monopolies traditionally assumed nuclear plant construction risks, which represented less of a burden in a regulated industry. But for nuclear build in liberalized markets the difficulty is twofold nuclear technology is at the stage of industrial relearning in a number of countries with new designs to be tested, and the producers have to support construction and market risks on a very large investment. [Pg.122]

Two methods for determination of horizontal displacements of joints in multistoreyed steel supporting constructions forming power plants, were presented in this paper. [Pg.328]

First Method. Inside four main box columns four physical pendula were hung. For each storey closed traverse was established with vertices, which are not stabilized, but only marked for each periodic measurement by forced centering system of theodolite, range-finder, targets and reflectors. Only in the network established on the ground floor these vertices were fixed permanently. Monitored points were marked on all wall columns of supporting construction for each storey. Directions and horizontal distances were measured from traverse vertices to monitored points and pendula periodically. [Pg.329]

It is a two pad bearing In which the pad and support construction described earlier, and shown in Fig. 1, is used. The two pad configuration was chosen to allow the arrangement shown for testing various support disk diameters. The disk retainer plate could be rotated within a circumferential slot in the base ring. This allowed the insertion of the disks to be tested into their corresponding holes in the retainer plate, which was then rotated to place these disks into position for support of the pads. [Pg.116]

A positive safety culture is often seen as the endpoint of the systematic efforts to improve safety. Once attained any hazards will be controlled in a coherent, supportive, constructive, even happy environment. But what is a positive safety culture There are many answers. The Confederation of British Industry lists eleven features ... [Pg.417]

For temporary conditions during construction, the fresh fill material must be able to support construction plant and equipment. Wet cohesive soils particularly are prone to rapid softening so may not be able to support wheeled or tracked vehicles i.e. the site easily becomes a quagmire. Hence checking the trafficability of the fresh fill is essential. [Pg.230]

The main tasks of geotextiles in the field of dam construction and supporting structures are the reinforcement and armoring of the soil material, especially the so-called upholstery walls (that is, very steep supporting constructions) and dam pileup. [Pg.329]

Background. The formalism presented in the previous section for predicting the stability of oxide surfaces in equilibrium with a multi-component gas phase is readily extended to systems that contain catalytic metal particles supported on oxide surfaces. Identifying stable particle-support constructions is indispensable for predicting the catalytic activity of the particle-support interface. This section will outline studies on reducible oxides (Ti02 and Ce02) that display unique particle-support interactions where the oxide support plays an active role in the catalytic mechanism. These examples demonstrate the ability of ab initio thermodynamics to determine the stability of metal clusters on oxide supports under realistic catalytic conditions. Such calculations can be used in concert with DFT reactivity studies... [Pg.178]
