Most AR coatings are still produced by evaporation but CVD is gradually introduced particularly in applications with three-dimensional surfaces or deep recesses. AR coatings are used in numerous applications, which include lasers, lenses for cameras and binoculars, instrument panels, microscopes, telescopes, range finders, etc., as well as on automotive and architectural glasses. [Pg.407]

However, your value can be no more accurate than that as long as you are using a meter stick. It is possible that you may obtain a more sophisticated device, like a sonic range-finder, that can provide you with a more accurate measurement. The important thing to remember is that your data can be no more accurate than the device with which you are measuring. This concept is the foundation for the use of significant figures in calculations. [Pg.52]

Before a test is started, the coordinates of the flare and the radiometers (see Chapter 6) used to measure radiation are determined by utilizing a laser range finder to measure distances to three fixed objects with known coordinates and a technique called "triangulation." Multiple radiometers are used to measure various radiant fluxes simultaneously. A photo of the radiation measurement system is shown in Figure 28.12. The measured radiant fluxes, through sophisticated mathematical analysis, are used to determine the coordinates of the effective "epicenter(s)" of the flame, and the radiant fraction, which is defined as the fraction of heat release from combustion that is emitted as thermal radiation [43]. Solar radiation is subtracted from the radiation measurements as appropriate. [Pg.561]

First Method. Inside four main box columns four physical pendula were hung. For each storey closed traverse was established with vertices, which are not stabilized, but only marked for each periodic measurement by forced centering system of theodolite, range-finder, targets and reflectors. Only in the network established on the ground floor these vertices were fixed permanently. Monitored points were marked on all wall columns of supporting construction for each storey. Directions and horizontal distances were measured from traverse vertices to monitored points and pendula periodically. [Pg.329]

Most machine vision systems rely on data captured by hardware with fixed characteristics. These systems include passive sensing systems—such as video cameras—and active sensing systems—such as laser range finders. In an active vision system, the parameters and characteristics of data capture are dynamically controlled by the scene interpretation system. Active vision systems may employ either active or passive sensors. In an active vision system, however, the state parameters of the sensors, such as focus, aperature, vergence, and dlumination, are controlled to acquire data that will faciKtate scene interpretation. [Pg.2068]
