With a smaller supplier base, a company can more proactively manage supplier relationships through supplier development programmes. Typically such programmes involve the company working closely with individual suppliers to identify opportunities to improve not just product quality, but also process quality and to work jointly on cost-reduction initiatives. 

This led to the necessity for APC to find another supplier for the gas circulators. A contract was placed with AEl (Rngby) to engineer the gas circulators in about the summer of 1966. Thus about a year had passed and the gas circulators design/development programme was in a state of flux. Mergers in the electrical indnstry snbseqnently destroyed the AEl circnlator team. 

A decision not to perform the review (e.g., evidence that code is developed under a quality system and formal reviews have already been conducted and reported) should be documented in the project validation plan, complete with the rationale. It is recognized that under its software quality assurance program the supplier may conduct similar examination of the software using only internal resource. Considering GMP implications, the pharmaceutical manufacturer would normally require that the software designer or programmer does not carry out any software review in isolation. 

Responsible Care is an initiative that originated in the chemicals industry in Canada in 1984 and was then further developed in the USA in 1988. Essentially, it is a voluntary industry action programme aiming to demonstrate improvements made in all aspects of performance. A key step is to involve all interested parties, including employees, local communities, suppliers and customers, in order to improve dialogue with a view to improving public perception of the issues and the industry s attempts to deal with them. 

Procurement process involves development of reliable suppliers who will supply as per manufacturing programme (product mix) to be carried out in response to market changes. There could be urgent demand for the products for which the necessary inputs will also be required urgently. The requirements shall be rapidly fulfilled by suppliers and logistics providers as they form important components of supply chain networks. 

Most of the suppliers provided up-dated information on their technical designs, possibilities of reducing construction time and on economic comparison between nuclear and coal fired plants. Two developing countries presented papers on their SMPR market situation. Detailed information was presented about economic comparison of nuclear and coal-fired plants, based on experience in India and Canada, which clearly indicates the advantages of a nuclear power programme with small reactors. Other participants expressed doubts about the use of nuclear power versus other power sources, especially coal in the size range below 600 MW(e). 

Promotion of the availability of SMPRs for, in particular, developing countries been a programme item in Agency activities for more than two decades. Efforts have involved many meetings, missions, reports and even a research contract with a supplier. This was initially to help start and coordinate SMPR development and later to explore and update information on important technical and economic aspects.
