We have also tried to include references to more advanced and specialized texts, monographs, reviews, and other compilations that the reader who is looking for more detail, can go to for supplementary reading. [Pg.683]

Several chapters, reviews, and a recent book have been published on these materials, and the area is rapidly growing, becoming known as the "Organic Solid State". This supplementary reading is presented as references 34-42. [Pg.30]

We are indebted to them for distilling more than 2000 references into a comprehensive and critical volume. As in the first edition, many of the descriptions are brief and non-mathematical in nature. However, the supplementary reading lists at the ends of the chapters, which have been expanded and brought more nearly up to date, contain references to more advanced and rigorous treatments. Some exercises have been changed, some added, a few deleted, and asterisks have been used to mark those which experience has shown to be most challenging to the more capable students. Teachers may obtain answer sheets for exercises in this edition by writing the publisher. [Pg.516]

The design of chemical plants to be more nearly inherently safe has received a great deal of attention in recent years. This is due in part to the worldwide attention to safety issues in the chemical industry brought on by the gas release at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, in December 1984. This and the fairly frequent occurrence of other chemical plant incidents has raised the issue of chemical plant safety to a very high level of visibility and concern. The major factors that should be considered in the planning, design, and operation of chemical plants are described below. The reader is referred to the list of recommended supplementary reading at the end of the chapter for more detailed information. [Pg.84]

For this reason, we provide here a list of supplementary reading. The list falls into three parts textbooks, review volumes, and bibliographies. Some of the books referred to are out of print, or at least difficult to obtain, but a good science library should be able to provide most of these. [Pg.503]

At the beginning of each chapter, there is a brief summary of what the reader will find in the particular chapter. These summaries provide a detailed survey of the subject matter covered in this book. No attempt was made to provide all-inclusive references. References are not prioritized and are presented as supplementary reading for students. [Pg.343]

Following is a short chapter-by-chapter account of other published work that is relevant to each topic and has, in some way, influenced our work. All these works are listed in the References. This book is designed to be both a textbook and a general reference book. Questions at the end of each chapter are written to summarize and review the material in the chapter. References are given for specific points covered in the book, and supplementary references are cited at the end of each chapter for additional reading about the topics covered. [Pg.5]

The book is not intended to be read sequentially, although it is our hope that readers—students of lipids as well as current researchers in the field—will find all the information useful. The book is designed to be used as a reference text, either as supplementary material for a senior graduate-level course on the physical properties of lipids or as an introduction to the exciting new areas of research into the theoretical understanding of physical properties of lipids. It is our intention to update the book as needed to include newer advances in the field. [Pg.4]
