The third edition contains major improvements over the previous two editions. I have updated references. Each reaction is now supplemented with two to three representative examples in synthesis to showcase its synthetic utility. As Emil Fischer stated Science is not an abstraction but as a product of human endeavor it is inseparably bound up in its development with the personalities and fortunes of those who dedicate themselves to it. To that end, I added biographical sketches for most of the chemists who discovered or developed those name reactions. Furthemore, I have significantly beefed up the subject index to help the reader navigate the book more easily. [Pg.660]

The symbol pr in printed CA Chemical Subject Indexes denotes preparation, and was first introduced in July-December 1994 (Volume 121). Abstracts are assigned pr on an intellectual basis by CAS document analysts if the original source material provides information on preparation or related concepts such as manufacture, purification, recovery, synthesis, extraction, generation, isolation, and secretion. [Pg.3]

The second appendix, by Dr. Donald B. Boyd, is an updated compendium of software for molecular modeling, computational chemistry, de novo molecular design, quantitative structure-property relationships, synthesis planning, and other facets of computers helping molecular science. This is one of the most current and most complete compilations anywhere. Appendix 2 provides addresses, telephone numbers, and electronic mailing addresses of suppliers of software. Combined with the subject index of this volume, it is possible to... [Pg.487]

CCCII comprises ten volumes, of which the last contains only subject indexes. The first two volumes describe the development of new ligands since the 1980s, which complements Volume 2 in CCC. They also include new techniques of synthesis and characterization, with a special emphasis on the burgeoning physical techniques which are increasingly applied to the study of coordination compounds. Developments in theory, computation methods, simulation, and useful software are reported. The volumes conclude with a series of case studies, which illustrate how synthesis, spectroscopy, and other physical techniques have been successfully applied in unravelling some significant problems in coordination chemistry. [Pg.812]

In the General Subject Index a large number of text modifications and abstract numbers are listed under the term hydrogenation of carbon monoxide (Fig. 38). Some text modifications contain the term Fischer-Tropsch, for although Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is not part of the controlled vocabulary, it can occur in the index entries when the author used it in his original publication. All the abstracts in Fig. 38 about carbon monoxide could deal with the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and should therefore be read. [Pg.67]
