Subject index sequence

In the absence, at the present time, of any subject indexing of the current issues of chemical abstracting journals of the world, Chemisches ZerUralblatf Das System is the first device providing a unilateral subject approach to the weekly issues of Chemisches Zentralblatt. Published in 1958, Das System (4) is a listing of 8662 "system numbers" allotted to chemical subject terms since the sequence of abstracts in each weekly issue of the journal is numerical, one may determine—by looking up pertinent system numbers—whether that issue carries any abstracts of... 

CASurveyor is a CD-ROM series of more than 1 5 informative summaries of worldwide science literature as published in CA. Each subject-specific topic can be searched using title, author, organization name, patent number, journal, publication year, document type, CA abstract number, keywords, and subject index terms. Abstracts, sequences, and molecular structures are display-able. 

A table that indicates the sequence of the reagents may help the reader to locate reactions in the body of the text. This table also contains such frequently used reagents as NaOH and HCl, not included in the subject index.

Biological Abstracts (University of Pennsylvania) contains much of chemical and biochemical interest, and publishes approximately 100,000 informative abstracts annually in semimonthly issues, each of which has an author index which cumulates in the last issue of each volume, and a guide to new books and periodicals. Each issue also has a subject index based on keywords in the titles of articles and arranged in alphabetical sequence by computer. This is supplemented by the classified arrangement of the material and a detailed table of contents. The computer-composed subject index cumulates each quarter. Specialized parts are also issued separately. 

Using index cards (see p. 319) - these can help you organize large numbers of references. Write key points on each card - this helps when considering where the reference fits into the literature. Arrange the cards in subject piles, eliminating irrelevant ones. Order the cards in the sequence you wish to write in. 

For example, when a WO3 thick film is subjected to the reducing and oxidizing sequence in appropriate oxygen potential regimes created by CO/CO2 buffers, and another film after the above-mentioned treatment is finally heated in air, no difference in their XRD signatures could be discerned, as shown in Figure 2.21. All the three patterns could be indexed as those belonging to triclinic WO3 [18]. 

The Cumulative Book Index is published monthly in New York by the H. W. Wilson Co., with cumulations every three, six and twelve months. It is a world list of books in the English language giving a complete bibliography for the period covered of all works in English in one alphabetical sequence of authors, titles and subjects. The usual details are given of author, title, publisher and price under each entry. 

A more recent British publication is the British Technology Index (Library Association, 1962-). This indexes about 400 British technical journals monthly in an alphabetical sequence of subject headings, with an annual cumulation.
