Structural shapes

The Standard covers bar, plates, sheets, strip, structural shapes rolled stock, pipes, sheets with laminar coating and strip of carbon, alloyed and electrical steels and sets up nondestructive magnetic method of mechanical and service properties and microstructure control. [Pg.25]

When both solids and gases pass through the distributor, such as in catalytic-cracldng units, a number of variations are or have been used, such as concentric rings in the same plane, with the annuli open (Fig. 17-9a) concentric rings in the form of a cone (Fig. 17-9b) grids of T bars or other structural shapes (Fig. 17-9c) flat metal perforated plates supported or reinforced with structural members (Fig. 17-9d) dished and perforated plates concave both upward and downward (Fig. 17-9e and f). The last two forms are generally more economical. [Pg.1564]

Pultrusion is also used to make structural shapes from composite materials. The incoming material is generally unidirectional and must be pulled through the pultrusion die because the uncured composite material is entirely too flexible to push (as in extrusion processes). The incoming material can be preshaped by various guides and rollers as in Figure 1-18. [Pg.22]

There are different techniques that have been used for over a century to increase the modulus of elasticity of plastics. Orientation or the use of fillers and/or reinforcements such as RPs can modify the plastic. There is also the popular and extensively used approach of using geometrical design shapes that makes the best use of materials to improve stiffness even though it has a low modulus. Structural shapes that are applicable to all materials include shells, sandwich structures, and folded plate structures (Fig. 3-8). These widely used shapes employed include other shapes such as dimple sheet surfaces. They improve the flexural stiffness in one or more directions. [Pg.141]

Myriad FRP products are available for either the repair or the outright replacement of existing structures. In addition to chemical-process pipes and tanks, FRP composite products include structural shapes, bridge systems, grating, handrail ladders, etc. [Pg.41]

The bipolar plate with multiple functions, also called a flow field plate or separation plate (separator), is one of fhe core components in fuel cells. In reality, like serially linked batteries, fuel cells are a serial connection or stacking of fuel cell unifs, or so-called unif cells fhis is why fuel cells are normally also called sfacks (Figure 5.1) [2]. The complicated large fuel cells or module can consist of a couple of serially connecfed simple fuel cells or cell rows. Excepf for the special unit cells at two ends of a simple stack or cell row, all the other unit cells have the same structure, shape, and functions. [Pg.308]

The effect of subtle particle changes as a function of temperature, sample preparation, time, solvent, and other changes can be measured using DLS. Such changes can then be related to performance variations eventually interrelating structure, shape, and biological or physical property. [Pg.69]

Structural shapes Rolled flanged sections, sections welded from plates and specialty sections with one or more dimensions of their cross section greater than 3 in. They include beams, channels, and tees, if depth dimensions exceed 3 in. [Pg.159]

Gilbertson et al. (1990) generally concluded that the fate of PPCPs in the environment is dependent on the physicochemical properties of the compounds. Such properties include molecular structure, shape, size, speciation, solubility, degradability, and... [Pg.149]

Silicon carbide s relatively low neutron cross section and good resistance to radiation damage make it useful in some of its new forms in nuclear reactors (qv). Silicon carbide temperature-sensing devices and structural shapes fabricated from the new dense types are expected to have increased stability. Silicon carbide coatings (qv) may be applied to nuclear fuel elements, especially those of pebble-bed reactors, or silicon carbide may be incorporated as a matrix in these elements (153,154). [Pg.469]

The solid-state properties like crystallinity, polymorphism (crystal structure), shape (morphology), and particle size of drugs are important in the stability, dissolution, and processibility of drugs. Some commonly used methods in solid-state studies include microscopy, hot stage microscopy with polarized light, x-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared FTIR/Raman, and solid-state NMR. [Pg.84]
