Steering committee coordinator

The Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), a directorate of AIChE, was established in 1985 to develop and disseminate technical information for use in the prevention of major chemical accidents. The CCPS is supported by a diverse group of industrial sponsors in the chemical process industry and related industries who provide the necessary funding and professional guidance for its projects. The CCPS Technical Steering Committee and the technical subcommittees oversee individual projects selected by CCPS. Professional representatives of the sponsoring companies staff the subcommittees, with a member of the CCPS staff coordinating the activities of the sub-committee. 

The Sustainability Center acts as an interface between the Sustainability Council and the International Steering Committee. It coordinates various internal projects and teams and is responsible for BASF Group communication on sustainability. 

Nominees must be recommended by their school science coordinator and must submit a record of their educational plans. Attendees are chosen competitively by a steering committee, which includes a teacher who has attended the workshop and a Professor from the University of Delaware. This year the teachers will receive credit from the University after completing course requirements. 

The next step in the development of a risk management program is to set up an organization. This is often done through use of a steering committee, subcommittees, and a risk/process safety management (PSM) coordinator, as shown in Figure 17.1. 

Volume 1 provides a general overview of the scientific results, prepared by the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) and the International Scientific Secretariat (ISS) of EUROTRAC, together with brief summaries of the work of the fourteen individual subprojects prepared by the respective subproject coordinators.

Related research and development works are underway at several organizations under the discussion and coordination of the Japanese FBR R D Steering Committee, which is composed of Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation(PNC), JAPC, Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute(JAERI) and Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry(CRIEPI). 

As you move into implementation, one member of each steering committee should be appointed as the local process owner, or coordinator, for your new safety process. This person may be a staff member, supervisor, or hourly employee who will serve as the employee safety coordinator. If the position is assigned to an hourly employee, you may want to rotate it annually. 

In addition to the behavioral safety coordinator, you will often want to identify an employee safety coordinator in each natural work team. This employee should serve to champion the process and be the point of contact for the steering committee in areas that do not have steering committee representation.
