Natural Work Team

Natural Work Team A team of employees, often hourly personnel, who share a common workspace and have responsibility for a particular process or process segment. [Pg.283]

In addition to the behavioral safety coordinator, you will often want to identify an employee safety coordinator in each natural work team. This employee should serve to champion the process and be the point of contact for the steering committee in areas that do not have steering committee representation. [Pg.130]

Thus, designing work around teams can provide several advantages to organizations and their workers. Unfortunately, there are also some disadvantages to using work teams. Whether or not teams arc beneficial can depend on several factors particular to the composition, structure, and environment of teams and the nature of their tasks. Table 3 lists some of the possible disadvantages of designing work around teams. [Pg.881]

Underlying a number of specific team skills, such as prioritizing tasks, monitoring each other s work and communicating effectively, is the idea that the team has a common understanding of the task in question and the nature of team work. This is sometimes referred to as a shared mental model, analogous to the mental models of the world that each of us has as individuals. One tends to assume that everyone else in the team has the same understanding as you do... [Pg.342]

Diffused responsibility. It is natural for team members to feel they cannot be held accountable for the failure of a group decision. The risk of failure is spread aroimd. Think about it. How often does a work group or team decide to bypass or overlook a safety procedure, perhaps in the name of productivity If someone gets injured as a result, no one individual can be held responsible. The risk was a team decision. [Pg.391]

Find and Analyze Examples in Nature The project team then tries to find examples of each process ke5rword in the natural world. For example, forming can be found in nature when a heavy animal such as an elephant walks on mud, or when water pressure shapes rocks in a river. Similar examples are grouped and examples that best exemplify the process key word researched to better rmderstand how the examples occur in nature. Here, team members place heavy emphasis on how natm-e works in the example and why. Once the rmique quahties of the natm-al process are dissected, team members then discuss how the natm-al process can be apphed to the given manufacturing process step. [Pg.580]

Depending on the nature of the work you may require space models, prototypes, process capability studies, or samples of work as evidence of their capability. You may also make a preliminary visit to each potential bidder but would not send out an evaluation team until the qualification stage. [Pg.317]

Note that the site selection process need not be lengthy or complex. Team members regular pb responsMities, as well as their PSM work to date, witt have thoroughly acquainted them vdth a range of your company s facilities. It s more than likely that logical candidates for the pilot site will have emerged naturally from the process and may already have been proposed. [Pg.149]

The root causes for this critical event both concern the operations department and the service department who ran the contractor maintenance team. The operations department (i.e., the day shift operations supervisor) failed to provide adequate supervision and instructions to the contractor team. Explanations of the nature of the permit-to-work systems (i.e., the need to report back at end of shift) should have been given, and the possibility and implications of work not being completed before the end of the shift should have been considered by both parties. [Pg.300]

An obvious drawback in RCM-based synthesis of unsaturated macrocyclic natural compounds is the lack of control over the newly formed double bond. The products formed are usually obtained as mixture of ( /Z)-isomers with the (E)-isomer dominating in most cases. The best solution for this problem might be a sequence of RCAM followed by (E)- or (Z)-selective partial reduction. Until now, alkyne metathesis has remained in the shadow of alkene-based metathesis reactions. One of the reasons maybe the lack of commercially available catalysts for this type of reaction. When alkyne metathesis as a new synthetic tool was reviewed in early 1999 [184], there existed only a single report disclosed by Fiirstner s laboratory [185] on the RCAM-based conversion of functionalized diynes to triple-bonded 12- to 28-membered macrocycles with the concomitant expulsion of 2-butyne (cf Fig. 3a). These reactions were catalyzed by Schrock s tungsten-carbyne complex G. Since then, Furstner and coworkers have achieved a series of natural product syntheses, which seem to establish RCAM followed by partial reduction to (Z)- or (E)-cycloalkenes as a useful macrocyclization alternative to RCM. As work up to early 2000, including the development of alternative alkyne metathesis catalysts, is competently covered in Fiirstner s excellent review [2a], we will concentrate here only on the most recent natural product syntheses, which were all achieved by Fiirstner s team. [Pg.353]

The main challenge to overcome is obtaining the necessary numbers to input to such models. There is a natural distrust of rubbish in, rubbish out, and the teams used to working with hard data may be reluctant to express their underlying assumptions about goals, trade-offs, and business... [Pg.267]

The team s recommendations (immediate and long term) as to steps that might be taken to prevent any recurrence of incidents of a similar nature. These recommendations should not be confined to such matters as plant modification, but should, if appropriate, embrace training (retraining), assessment of operational procedures, and strengthening of safety measures. Recommendations that improve work systems and conditions make it harder for people to make mistakes. The team should also indicate what... [Pg.276]

The real breakthrough toward synthesis of vinblastine and, in fact, the first significant laboratory preparation of binary indole-indoline alkaloids with the natural C-16 -C14 PARF configuration, was due to the work of the Potier-Langlois team at Gif (38,39 for reviews, see Refs. 40 and 41), buttressed by results obtained by the Kutney group in Vancouver (42,43,44), and the efforts of Atta-ur-Rahman and associates in Karachi. Their basic idea, which relied on the biogenetic consideration that binary indole-indoline alkaloids are formed in plants by the union of vindoline... [Pg.89]
