At a temperature of 407 °C (or, very nearly, at 422.5 °C) the assumption that A AT may be used as a fair approximation for AAG and application of the standard steady-state approximation for the trimethylene intermediate leads to an overall estimation of one-... [Pg.483]

In each of these studies the siterproduct relationship was determined on the basis of product distribution data obtained from standard, steady state catalytic reactions. While this approach can provide evidence for the type of site(s) responsible for the formation of certain products it cannot give any indication of the number of such sites that are present on the catalyst surface. Since the activities of the various types of sites are different, it is possible that a small number of very active sites could dominate product formation. In order to relate the extent of produet formation with the number of specific types of sites present an experimental arrangement is needed which obviates these site activity differences. One way of doing this is to use the catalyst surface as a stoichiometric reagent so that each site reacts only once. In this way there will always be a 1 1 site product molecule ratio regardless of the rates at which the different types of sites react. [Pg.41]

A nondescanned ( direct ) FLIM detection module with two wavelength channels was developed for the Radiance 2000 microscope from Biorad. The detector module contains computer-controlled dichroic beamsplitters and filters, preamplifiers, and overload shutdown of the detectors. The preamplifiers simultaneously deliver photon pulses to a Becker Hickl SPC-830 TCSPC and intensity signals to the standard steady-state recording electronics. Unfortunately all Radiance scanning microscopes were discontinued in 2004. [Pg.141]

The fluorescence lifetime r can be determined directly by monitoring the decay curve of fluorescence intensity following a brief excitation pulse [48] or by detecting the emission delay of intensity modulated excitation light [47]. Using a standard steady-state fluorometer the quantum yield cp is determined, usually by comparison with standard compounds of known quantum yield [49]. [Pg.139]

One important clue to the mechanism is the rate law for the overall reaction the dependence of the rate of product formation on the concentrations of the critical components of the catalytic system, such as the catalyst, reagents, products, and cocatalyst. The reaction is often of order 1 with respect to catalyst concentration, but if it is of order 1/2 or 2 one may suspect dissociation or dimerization steps for the catalyst, required to transform it from the species present in majority in solution to the active catalyst. Reagents also often show first-order behavior, one interpretation of which would be that these reagents must bind to the catalyst majority species before the turnover-limiting step. A full kinetic analysis with standard steady state assumptions is used to compare the observed rate law with each proposed mechanism. Product inhibition, also seen in many cases, implies that as the product builds up it binds to the catalyst, decreasing the fraction of... [Pg.1066]

Thus, wehavechangedonlytwostepsinthe L(ifshitz)S(lezov)W(agner) - scheme [13], namely, the description of the quasi-stationary distribution of the concentration around a randomly chosen particle in the mean-field approximation, and the expression for flux in the flux balance at the moving precipitate boundaries. Instead of considering the standard steady-state equation DV cb = 0, we have analyzed a system of two coupled steady-state equations, for B atoms and for vacancies [14]... [Pg.34]

TRAL-FAX and TRAL-HOMEl are a feeder line from the pole transformer to the house. For the transformer, A represents phase A, and N indicates neutral. The standard steady-state AC voltage between phase A and neutral is 114 V in Japan. When lightning struck the antenna, case A, a flashover between the transformer grounding lead and the steel of the distribution pole was observed. The flashover is represented by short-circuiting the transformer and the pole by resistance Rp in Figure 6.17a. [Pg.438]

A large number of studies on isolated biochemical systems can be performed in cuvettes or deep-well slides. In particular, characterizations of macro-molecular structure frequently are conducted using thermostatted cells with capabilities for stopped-flow exchange of various solution modifiers (e.g. ligands, denaturants) on a millisecond time scale. In many cases, instruments used for such studies also can perform nanosecond or microsecond time-resolved measurements of emission intensity or polarization in addition to standard steady-state detection after polarization. [Pg.80]

The detection limits in the table correspond generally to the concentration of an element required to give a net signal equal to three times the standard deviation of the noise (background) in accordance with lUPAC recommendations. Detection limits can be confusing when steady-state techniques such as flame atomic emission or absorption, and plasma atomic emission or fluorescence, which... [Pg.717]

Ion-selective electrodes can be incorporated in flow cells to monitor the concentration of an analyte in standards and samples that are pumped through the flow cell. As the analyte passes through the cell, a potential spike is recorded instead of a steady-state potential. The concentration of K+ in serum has been determined in this fashion, using standards prepared in a matrix of 0.014 M NaCl. ... [Pg.536]

Sittampalam and Wilson described the preparation and use of an amperometric sensor for glucose. " The sensor is calibrated by measuring the steady-state current when it is immersed in standard solutions of glucose. A typical set of calibration data is shown in the following table. [Pg.538]

Equation (3.23) is the standard form of transfer funetion for a first-order system, where K = steady-state gain eonstant and T = time eonstant (seeonds). [Pg.44]

Equations (3.42) and (3.43) are the standard forms of transfer functions for a second-order system, where K = steady-state gain constant, Wn = undamped natural frequency (rad/s) and ( = damping ratio. The meaning of the parameters Wn and ( are explained in sections 3.6.4 and 3.6.3. [Pg.49]

The denominator is now in the standard second-order system form of equation (3.42). The steady-state response may be obtained using the final value theorem given in equation (3.10). [Pg.84]

In order to study the influence of surface disorder in the MM reaction, Frachenbourg et al. [91] have considered a substratum which has two types of randomly distributed sites with different adsorption rates. It is found that such a kind of disorder can sustain a reactive steady state, in contrast to the standard MM process on homogeneous surfaces. [Pg.422]

Heterogeneous catalytic systems offer the advantage that separation of the products from the catalyst is usually not a problem. The reacting fluid passes through a catalyst-filled reactor m the steady state, and the reaction products can be separated by standard methods. A recent innovation called catalytic distillation combines both the catalytic reaction and the separation process in the same vessel. This combination decreases the number of unit operations involved in a chemical process and has been used to make gasoline additives such as MTBE (methyl tertiai-y butyl ether). [Pg.226]

Intestinal absorption of digoxin is less complete compared to digitoxin. In order to improve absorption, acetylated- and methylated-digoxin derivates were developed. Digitoxin is metabolised in hepatic microsomal enzymes and can be cleared independently from renal function. The therapeutical serum level of digoxin is 0.5-2.0 ng/ml and 10-35 ng/ml of digitoxin. Steady state plateau of therapeutic plasma concentrations is reached after 4-5 half-life-times using standard daily doses [5]. [Pg.326]
