Speciality compounds

Humidification processes also occur in spray contactors often used to scmb minor components from a gas stream. Here the gas passes through successive sprays of hquid. The hquid is often water but may be specially compounded to enhance absorption of the component to be removed. [Pg.103]

Other uses for which special compounds have been developed include materials intended for food contact, wire insulation, and pharmaceutical appHcations. [Pg.18]

Another important application of NR is for bonding ceramic tiles, although it needs special compounding with clay filler and cellulose thickener. Water-borne NR adhesives can also be used for bonding canvas and leather shoes and interior trim in some automotive applications. [Pg.650]

Chlorosulphonated polyethylene rubber (Hypalon) has excellent chemical resistance even to oxidative acids at elevated temperatures. When specially compounded it can have excellent abrasion resistance in some operating conditions. [Pg.944]

Referring again to the paper of Lunn and Senior, I conclude these general remarks and turn to the analytic determination of the number of isomers of certain special compounds. [Pg.64]

Since the first plastic cellulosic was produced in 1868, there has been an evergrowing demand for specially compounded plastics. Using a post-reactor technique, plastics can be compounded by alloying or blending polymers in addition to using additives such as colorants, flame retardants, heat or light stabilizers, lubricants, fillers, and/or reinforcements (Fig. 6-6). With reinforcements the resulting reinforced compounds are usually referred to as reinforced plastics (RPs). [Pg.345]

Several of the software tools used most frequently today include Beilstein Crossfire (information at www.mdli.com) and SciFinder from the Chemical Abstracts Service (www.cas.org/scifinder/) for structure-based reaction searches. Reagent availability information is often searched with MDL s ACD and CAS s SciFinder. Special compound collections and contract services offered by new companies such as ChemNavigator (www.chemnavigator.com)... [Pg.302]

In small animals it is best that oral medications be ingested by the animal on its own, thus the special compounding with flavors and in appropriate textures discussed earlier. There are still occasions when an owner may have to open a pet s mouth and administer a pill through a piller, which is a tube with a plunger. [Pg.724]

A thin rubber sheet applied in the replacement of the sidewall pattern details in the retreading of pneumatic tyres. A similar film of rubber specially compounded to resist oxygen or ozone or to prevent the migration of carbon black into a lighter rubber, e.g., a tyre white sidewall. [Pg.69]

Information about the thermal stability of materials and mixtures can be obtained with little effort. It is known that when certain functional groups are present an increased probability of exothermic decomposition needs to be accounted for. A list of special compounds and materials are given in the Appendix (section G 1). [Pg.235]

The compounds that we will consider here, in contrast, serve quite specific needs of various organisms, and for this reason we will call them special chemical compounds. Different species may employ the same special compound, in some cases for the same purpose and in other cases for different ends. For example, the carbon dioxide arising from the respiration of a crowd of ants is an aggregation signal that invites solitary ants to join their nestmates. Corn rootworms, however, use the carbon dioxide that living corn roots emit into the soil as a signal, leading them to their food. Different species may also employ diverse compounds for essentially the same purpose. Various ant species mark their food trails with different chemicals to keep their food sources secret from one another. [Pg.20]

The main problem with nanofillers is the need for complete exfoliation. Some special compounding techniques have been developed such as, for example, the ZSK MEGA compounder by Coperion Werner Pfleiderer with a special screw configuration. [Pg.840]

Extra costs due to special compounding or formulation to protect against oxidant damage. [Pg.663]

Silicon does not occur free in nature, but is found in most rocks, sand, and clay. Silicon is electropositive, so it acts like a metalloid or semiconductor. In some ways silicon resembles metals as well as nonmetals. In some special compounds called polymers, silicon will act in conjunction with oxygen. In these special cases it is acting like a nonmetal. [Pg.195]

I remember thinking, I would like to create some special compound that would improve the quality of life. ... [Pg.55]

Polymerization The chemical reaction in which a special compound, called a monomer, combines with itself to form a long-chain molecule called a polymer. [Pg.252]

As noted above, the existence of anion vacancies is considered to be very rare except in special compounds such as (see Table 1.7 below). [Pg.23]

After numerous answers were brought to the synthetic challenge itself, there arose ever more insistently the quest for functions and properties of such special compounds. Already, even if still far from real applications, one can imagine, based on interlocked, threaded or knotted multi-component molecules, new organic materials, specific polymers, molecular devices or machines able to process and transfer energy, electrons or information. [Pg.374]

It should be recognized that appreciable shifts in bonding strength are sometimes made possible by special compounding variations for instance, the heat resistance of NR vulcanizates may be improved considerably by variation of the vulcanizing system. The normal sulphur vulcanization system is capable of many variants, which will govern the chemical nature of the sulphur cross link, i.e., whether it is essentially a more, di, or poly-sulphide type. The nature of sulphur cross link can have considerable influence on the bond strength and the heat-resistance of vulcanizate... [Pg.166]

We could show that the modification of transition metal alkoxides is a versatile tool to adjust the reactivity of precursors for the needs in lyotropic crystalline templating processes. In case of high surfactant concentrations where the liquid crystalline template is formed prior to the addition of the precursor the use of a modifier may become unnecessary. The synthesis of nanostructured rhenium dioxide and the utilization of MTO as precursor for this purpose clearly shows that in some cases the use of unusual specialized compounds is imperative. First promising results in the synthesis of nanostructured chromium oxide surfactant composites have been displayed although hydrolysis of the precursor seems to be still uncompleted within the nanostructure. The possibility of tailoring the d-values in a desired way besides the synthesis of certain particle morphologies encourages for further work in the future. [Pg.365]

Siderophores. If a suitably high content of iron (e.g., 50 pM or more for E. coli) is maintained in the external medium, bacteria and other microorganisms have little problem with uptake of iron. However, when the external iron concentration is low, special compounds called siderophores are utilized to render the iron more soluble.7 11 For example, at iron concentrations below 2 pM, E. coli and other enterobacteria secrete large amounts of enterobactin (Fig. 16-1). The stable Fe3+-enterobactin complex is taken up by a transport system that involves receptors on the outer bacterial membrane.9 12 13 Siderophores from many bacteria have in common with enterobactin the presence of catechol (orftzo-dihydroxybenzene) groups... [Pg.838]
