Source Inventories

Depending upon the nature of the complaint, the investigator may find some of the following activities to be useful inventory outdoor sources inventory equipment sources review building components and furnishings inventory other potential sources. [Pg.224]

Based on the activities that were initially conducted for the enabling activity project (Bravante and Medina, 2004), it was reported that little is known about POPs in the country and that even the users have minimal understanding of their hazards. As no comprehensive data on POPs is available for use as baseline information, a more comprehensive inventory is needed for the Philippines to have an actual measure of the risks that must be managed and addressed in the NIP. The Initial National Inventory conducted showed that POPs have already been banned in the country except HCB and mirex, which have no recorded use, importation or production in the country. Significant amounts of PCBs mainly come from electric transformers and capacitors. Dioxins and Source Inventory by DOST showed that there are numerous sources of dioxins and furans in the country, which emit significant quantities of dioxins and furans into the environment. No treatment facility in the country that deals with the destruction of POPs and other toxic hazardous wastes are present in the country (Bravante and Moreno, 2005). [Pg.579]

Section 7.2 (above) discusses data sources for information on types of chemicals used and the amount discharged to the environment. Additional information can be obtained through a site inspection, which is a very useful and effective tool for augmenting and strengthening the information gained from compiling a source inventory. [Pg.68]

Sources of Data. Input Information. Except for initial profiles, the input data for the model are the meteorological conditions and the source emission conditions. Wind speed and diffusion coefficients depend on position and time. Source inventories include the flux of each primary pollutant as it depends upon location in the basin and time of day. [Pg.137]

Statistical data of fossil fuel (coal, oil, natural gas, etc) consumption, biomass (com, rice, wheat, etc) burning, metal smelting, and chemical industry production are useful foremission sources inventory. [Pg.12]

A detailed source inventory of air pollutants, including SO2 and NO, was prepared for Metro Manila in 1990 (Siador, Jr. and Calderon, 1997). A study of acid rain was conducted between April and November of 1986 and 1987 with 94 event samples collected at 15 sampling stations in Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Bataan. The pH of rain was found to vary between 3.7 and 7.7. The lowest value of 3.7 was reported in the central district of Metro Manila. [Pg.83]

There was some surprise that a CO standard was established, since it is not involved in the sensory perception of smog however, the studies of urban pollutant concentrations showed that the levels of CO frequently exceeded those known to cause significant impairment of important bodily functions in sensitive segments of the population, specifically those with impaired respiratory or circulatory capacity. Further, although the auto was not the sole contributor to smog, source inventory data indicated that the only significant source of atmospheric CO was motor vehicle exhaust (14). [Pg.418]

Developing a DSA requires that an inventory of potential hazards within the facility be developed. One method of identifying potential hazards is to use a checklist. Normally, a team comprised of engineering, operations, and safety would do a wall down of the facility. Many sites have an inventory system that identifies chemicals and their quantities. This inventory system should be queried to determine what chemicals are in the facility. Radioactive material inventory and sealed source inventory systems should also be used to determine their inventories. A typical hazard identification checklist is provided in Table 20.3. Dispositions are either identified as a Standard Industrial Hazard, screened out due to limited quantities of hazardous material, or are carried forth as an initiator of an event or the hazard from an event. The criteria identified in Table 20.4 are used to determine which hazards require further review. [Pg.674]

Several countries have performed national source inventories for dioxins to eliminate the major sources and minimize the potential risk for the environment. [Pg.218]
