Information input

An interneuron together with a sensory afferent and motor efferent form a polysynaptic reflex (Figure 2.2) this comprises the initial stage of information input (sensory afferent), the processing/computing an appropriate response (interneurons) and the execution of a behavioural response (motor efferent). The simplest reflexes in the nervous system are monosynaptic reflexes, such as the familiar tendon (knee) jerk, these do not involve an interneuron. The sensory afferent activated by the mechano-receptor (the tap of the patellar hammer) forms a synapse with the motor efferent in the spinal cord, which then causes the skeletal muscle to contract and the crossed leg to jerk forward. With a synaptic delay of 1 millisecond (ms), the time between input and output increases with the number of synapses introduced into the circuit. As an... [Pg.11]

It is thus a higher form of molecular "behaviour than selective com-plexation alone and involves two stages of information input. Enzyme reactions are examples of such processes, as well as, for instance, drug-receptor interactions. Two substrates could, in principle, display very similar thermodynamic and kinetic complexation behaviour (no selection) but still only one of them may be able to undergo a specific reaction (because of geometrical differences, for instance) and thus be recognized. [Pg.4]

Decoder, the subsystem which alters the code of information input to it through the input transducer or the internal transducer into a private code that can be used internally by the system. [Pg.356]

Decider, the executive subsystem which receives information inputs from all other subsystems and transmits to them information outputs that control the entire system. [Pg.356]

Infonnation stress. Also there are information stresses, including (a) information input lack or underload, resulting from a dearth of information in the environment or from improper function of the external sense organs or input transducers (b) injection of noise into the system, which has an effect of information cutoff, much like the previous stress and (c) information input excess or overload. Informational stresses may involve changes in the rate of information input or in its meaning. [Pg.359]

Position Analysis Questionnaire The PAQ is a structured job analysis questionnaire using worker-oriented elements (187 of them) to characterize the human behaviors involved in jobs (McCormick et al. 1969). The PAQ is structured into six divisions, with the first three representing the classic experimental psychology approach (information input, mental process, work output) and... [Pg.1137]

An internal computer functional hierarchy exists for processing information input emd generating appropriate output. Essential functions of this hierarchy are represented by the modules of modeling, simulation control, and rendering. Built onto appropriate ha ware structures, this functionality is realized by software technology. [Pg.2503]

The isolated use of some interaction modes often leads to a one-sided application and performance profile. With the symbiosis of gesture-based, natural language and direct manipulative forms of interaction, the scope of human-computer interaction and the functionality of the information input can be increased, making it possible to maximize usability and efficiency. [Pg.2509]

The Edit pull-down menu lists all features for the information input and functions dealing with chemical structure editing as well as the standard Windows functions like Copy and Paste. However, only three OPUS commands are active in the demo version (see Fig. 7.1). [Pg.61]
