Optimal reactor sizes are L = 0.5 to 800 m and 4)int = 0.001 to 0.1 m. A spiral form is preferred. Working temperature and pressure is adjusted so that the process occurs in the liquid phase [39,40]. Mill Tailings. Recovery efficiency in ore processing is not 100%. Accumulated mill tailings contain tens of thousands of metric tons of uranium. Whereas improved techniques have been employed to recover some of this uranium, the recovery rate is still generally low, approximately 35—50%, owing to metallurgical problems and economic considerations (33). 

The actual liquid-to-gas ratio (solvent-circulation rate) normally will be greater than the minimum by as much as 25 to 100 percent and may be arrived at by economic considerations as well as by judgment and experience. For example, in some packed-tower applications involving veiy soluble gases or vacuum operation, the minimum quantity of solvent needed to dissolve the solute may be insufficient to keep the packing surface thoroughly wet, leading to poor distribution of the liquid stream.
