Solids content, viscosity

Solution Polymers. Acryflc solution polymers are usually characterized by their composition, solids content, viscosity, molecular weight, glass-transition temperature, and solvent. The compositions of acryflc polymers are most readily determined by physicochemical methods such as spectroscopy, pyrolytic gas—liquid chromatography, and refractive index measurements (97,158). The solids content of acryflc polymers is determined by dilution followed by solvent evaporation to constant weight. Viscosities are most conveniently determined with a Brookfield viscometer, molecular weight by intrinsic viscosity (158), and glass-transition temperature by calorimetry. [Pg.171]

The physical properties of spray-dried materials are subject to considerable variation, depending on the direction of flow of the inlet gas and its temperature, the degree and uniformity of atomization, the solids content of the feed, the temperature of the feed, and the degree of aeration of the feed. The properties of the product usually of greatest interest are (1) particle size, (2) bulk density, and (3) dustiness. The particle size is a function of atomizer-operating conditions and also of the solids content, liquid viscosity, liquid density, and feed rate. In general, particle size increases with solids content, viscosity, density, and feed rate. [Pg.1233]

A number of different evaporator designs are illustrated in Fig. 8, and the variations based upon these concepts are many. Often, physical properties and materials handling considerations for the feed or the bottom streams (e.g., solids content, viscosity, heat sensitivity) will indicate that one evaporator type will be better suited for the duty than other types. [Pg.491]

Acrylic and styrene-acrylic emulsion polymers are typically characterized fiar solids content, viscosity and pH. Commercial products range in solids content from about 35 to 65% by weight, and in viscosity from tens to thousands of centipoise. Solids content is determined gravimetrically. Samples are dried to constant weight in a forced-draft oven, typically at 150 °C, and cooled in a desiccator. Viscosity is conveniently detamined using a Brookfield viscometer. For meaningful viscosity comparisons between various samples, the same spindle size and rate of rotation (shear rate) should be used. [Pg.327]

The development of an acrylate polymer emulsion for flooring adhesives, which fulfils the requirements of Emicode, which stipulates that products must be solvent-free and that emissions of individual carcinogenic compounds under standard conditions and 24 hours after application of a product are below defined limiting values, is described. The Tg, total solids content, viscosity and residual monomer content of this acrylic adhesive are tabulated along with the wet tack and shear strength of an optimised binder for flooring adhesives. Solution PolymorS. A solution pol5mier s composition, solids content, viscosity, molecular weight distribution, glass-transition temperature, and solvent are of interest. Standard methods allow for all of these properties to be readily determined (171,172). [Pg.165]

Ferroelectric thin films which are being developed for nonvolatile memory applications are most often based on the use of solution-deposited lead zirconate titanate (PZT). Solution deposition generally involves the following steps (1) preparation of the precursor solution from metal alkoxide and carboxylate compounds (2) the tailoring of solution characteristics such as solids content, viscosity. [Pg.242]
