Solid extrusion

A semiconducting screen of tape or extruded compound is normally specified for cables that have a rated line voltage of 3000 V and above. IEC60502 applies to solid extrusions of insulation, and requires PE and XLPE compounds to have the screen for 3000 V and above. Likewise the standard requires the screen for 6000 V and above for PVC and EPR compounds. BS6622 calls for screens for all cables for voltages between 6600 and 33,000 volts. [Pg.196]

The first stage is conveying and melting as for solid extrusions except that mixing must be adequate to achieve uniform distribution of the nucleating agent. [Pg.223]

Although carbon dioxide liberated from chemical blowing agents costs about 10 times that purchased in cylinders, the former offers advantages of simplicity of addition of powder or masterbatch pellets at the hopper. Overall, for wood-like and similar extrusions, conventional single screw extruders can be used, as for solid extrusions. [Pg.224]

The billet is extruded by a solid extrusion ram of circular cross-section or a hollow ram of annular cross-section, as illustrated in Fig. 147, which has to sustain compression and buckling stresses. The yield point of the best steels is now about 120 kg/mm, from which it may be concluded that - when extruding rods by means of a solid ram and extruding tubes by means of a hollow ram - extrusion pressures of 12,000 and... [Pg.181]

Hence, cold gas efficiencies of 80-85% should be reached [120,121]. The upper water-cooled wall is made of a special ceramic-matrbc-composite material and is followed by a full water quench to 370 °C at the bottom. A test plant is in operation at the Gas Technology Institute in Des Plaines, Illinois, since 2011 and a 300 t/d dry solids extrusion pump is tested since 2012 at the Energy and Environmental Research Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota [122,123]. [Pg.225]

In a pore system composed of isolated pores of ink-bottle shape, the intrusion curve leads to the size distribution of the necks and the extrusion curve to the size distribution of the bodies of the pores. In the majority of solids, however, the pores are present as a network, and the interpretation of the mercury porosimetry results is complicated by pore blocking effects. [Pg.190]

Radical induced grafting may be carried out in solution, in the melt phase,292 29 or as a solid state process.296 This section will focus on melt phase grafting to polyolefin substrates but many of the considerations are generic. The direct grafting of monomers onto polymers, in particular polyolefins, in the melt phase by reactive extrusion has been widely studied. Most recently, the subject has been reviewed by Moad1 9 and by Russell.292 More details on reactive extrusion as a technique can be found in volumes edited by Xanthos," A1 Malaika and Baker et a 21 7 The process most often involves combining a frcc-radical initiator (most commonly a peroxide) and a monomer or macromonomer with the polyolefin as they are conveyed through the extruder. Monomers commonly used in this context include MAII (Section 7.6.4.1), maleimidc derivatives and malcate esters (Section 7.6.4.2), (meth)acrylic acid and (meth)acrylate esters (Section 7.6.43), S, AMS and derivatives (Section 7.6.4.4), vinylsilancs (Section 7.6.4.5) and vinyl oxazolines (Section 7.6.4.6). [Pg.390]

Due to particles extrusion, crystal lattice deformation expands to the adjacent area, though the deformation strength reduces gradually (Figs. 10(a)-10(other hand, after impacting, the particle may retain to plow the surface for a short distance to exhaust the kinetic energy of the particle. As a result, parts of the free atoms break apart from the substrate and pile up as atom clusters before the particle. The observation is consistent with results of molecular dynamics simulation of the nanometric cutting of silicon [15] and collision of the nanoparticle with the solid surface [16]. [Pg.239]

Homopolymers and copolymers from amido-sulfonic acid or salt containing monomers can be prepared by reactive extrusion, preferably in a twin screw extruder [1660]. The process produces a solid polymer. Copolymers of acrylamide, N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, and sodium-2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane sulfonate have been proposed to be active as fluid loss agents. Another component of the formulations is the sodium salt of naphthalene formaldehyde sulfonate [207]. The fluid loss additive is mixed with hydraulic cements in suitable amounts. [Pg.49]

The extrusion process requires the use of a lubricant to prevent adhesion of the aluminum to the die and ingot container walls. In hot extrusion, limited amounts of lubricant are applied to the ram and die face or to the billet ends. For cold extrusion, the container walls, billet surfaces, and die orifice must be lubricated with a thin film of viscous or solid lubricant. The lubricant most commonly used in extrusion is graphite in an oil or water base. A less common technique, spraying liquid nitrogen on the billet prior to extrusion, is also used. The nitrogen vaporizes during the extrusion process and acts as a lubricant. [Pg.200]
