Solicitations

Data should be available at every phase of the service quality loop from soliciting business through client reaction and feedback. The collection and analysis of data is a means of improving the service or conversely can detect the onset of an insidious degradation of the service before it becomes a major issue. [Pg.197]

John Raven Johnson, known as Jack Johnson to all his friends, was a member of the first Board of Directors of Organic Syntheses when it was incorporated in the state of New York, December 11, 1939 He continued membership for about 20 years Prior to this, Jack served for about 8 years on the Active Board of Editors, soliciting preparations and checking them He was Editor-in-Chief of two annual volumes, Vol XVI (1936) and Vol XIX (1939) He also served on the Advisory Board of Editors until his death... [Pg.222]

After all the previous statements, it would seem very difficult to select a piston. speed. For someone without direct experience, the following guidelines can be used as a starting point. Actual gas compressing experience should be solicited when a new compressor for the same gas is being eonsidered. These values will apply to the industrial process type of compressor with a double-acting cylinder construction. For horizontal compressors with lubricated cylinders, use 700 feet per minute (fpm) and for nonlubricated cylinders use 600 fpin. For vertical compressors with lubricated cylinders, use 800 fpm and for nonlubricated cylinders use 700 fpm. [Pg.58]

Current policy in API is to avoid commercial language in the API standard. API standards do not include a guarantee and warranty section. In the revisions, as they occur, other paragraphs deemed commercial are disallowed. This puts the burden of guarantee and warranty verbage on the user. A practical solution, if the user is not familiar with industry practices, is to solicit from the vendor a proposed guarantee that should be a zero tolerance on head and capacity. This would only be good prac-... [Pg.454]

The regional contract administrators (purchasing department or others, depending on the structure of the organization) will provide the prime contractor flow-down provisions for incorporation into solicitation and subcontractors purchase orders. [Pg.217]

The way many companies identify resource requirements is to solicit resource budgets from each department covering a 1 to 5 year period. However, before the managers can prepare budgets they need to know what requirements they will have to meet. They will need access to the corporate plans, sales forecasts, new product development plans, marketing plans, production plans, etc. as well as the quality policies, objectives, and procedures. [Pg.128]

While the term adequacy is a little vague it should be taken as meaning that the document is fit for its purpose. If the objective is stated in the document, does it fulfill that objective If it is stated that the document applies to a certain equipment, area, or activity, does it cover that equipment, area, or activity to the depth expected for such a document One of the difficulties in soliciting comments to documents is that you will gather comments on what you have written but not on what you have omitted. One useful method is to ensure that the procedures requiring the document specify the required content so that the reviewers can check the document against an agreed standard. [Pg.290]

The term issue in the context of documents means that copies of the document are distributed. You will of course wish to issue draft documents for comment but obviously they cannot be reviewed and approved beforehand. The sole purpose of issuing draft documents is to solicit comments. The requirement should be that the documents are reviewed and approved prior to use. Some organizations insist that even drafts are approved for issue. Others go further and insist that copies cannot be taken from unapproved documents. This is nonsense and not what is intended by the standard. Your draft documents need to look different from the approved versions either by using letter issue notation (a common convention) or by printing on colored or watermark paper. If the approved document would carry signatures, the absence of any signature indicates that the document is not approved. [Pg.291]

Communications should be two-way, incorporating mechanisms (e.g., questionnaires, response cards, callback numbers, etc.) for soliciting feedback from the people receiving information. This is particularly true of communications that support initiatives like PSM that require cooperation and may require changes in working habits. [Pg.28]

Measure and monitor. Installation at the test sites will be closely monitored against an established timetable, as well as in terms of our established PSM criteria and goals. Throughout this process, we will solicit feedback and other commentary from the pilot sites for incorporation into ongoing process improvement. [Pg.33]

Remember that enthusiasm is contagious. In soliciting membership for your team you are selling" people on the PSM initiative as a professional opportunity. You re much more likely to get cooperation if people see it this way than if they view your efforts as just another committee."... [Pg.59]

We have selected the Manwood plant as the test site, in consultation with Facility Manager Ray Leonard, who will play a key role in overseeing the installation. All Manwood employees will participate, either directly or indirectly, and we will actively solicit their feedback about the system based on their experience with it. [Pg.151]

Developing mechanisms for soliciting feedback. Pilot participants feedback and input are crucial not otdy for the test itself, but, more important, to enable the PSM team to refine the system for full implementation. Experience shows that the more quality feedback you receive, the more responsive you can be to customer requirements. The way you solicit... [Pg.152]

Such feedback, from anyone who interacts with the system by providing input, using information, or receiving reports, can greatly enhance the effectiveness of the new PSM system. System users may have important suggestions about how to improve or streamline a system, or may not clearly understand its importance or the part they play in its implementation. At the same time, soliciting—and acting on—user feedback helps underscore the collaborative nature of PSM cmd the fact that its success depends on the user. [Pg.182]

The critical incident technique was first described by Flanagan (1954) and was used during World War II to analyze "near-miss incidents." The war time studies of "pilot errors" by Fitts and Jones (1947) are the classic studies using this technique. The technique can be applied in different ways. The most common application is to ask individuals to describe situations involving errors made by themselves or their colleagues. Another, more systematic approach is to get them to fill in reports on critical incidents on a weekly basis. One recent development of the technique has been used in the aviation world, to solicit reports from aircraft crews in an anonjmrous or confidential way, on incidents in aircraft operations. Such data collection systems will be discussed more thoroughly in Chapter 6. [Pg.157]

If the questionnaire is to be filled in by a large number of people you will generally solicit more honest answers by assurances that the information is confidential and having the forms returned directly to your assessment team. [Pg.52]

The models are even more helpful to the process engineer than simple plot plans. The advantages are multiplied, as with models the process engineer can study as well as solicit the advice of other engineers in visualizing a processing condition. [Pg.8]

Avoid deceptive acts in the solicitation of professional employment. [Pg.381]

Some indication of the differences can be found by analysing some criticisms. .. upon the periodic classification solicited in 1881 by the editor of the Chemical News from Adolphe Wurtz, a celebrated Parisian chemist of the time. (Wurtz s note follows notes from Mendeleev and from Lothar Meyer forming their famous priority dispute.)... [Pg.86]

An illustration of an operations research problem for which no model is yet available is the following, which occurs in queueing theory.4 Everyone has observed, and perhaps been displeased to notice, persons in a waiting line, before a theater box-office, for example, who arrive after the observer s arrival, but who go to persons in front to solicit their cooperation in obtaining service. Thus, an... [Pg.252]
